Download the removal tool from the link below and use it to remove MSE



Then download a new copy of MSE and install.

No go mick...still at same problem spot

Strange I got MSE to remove using that tool. I have also used it on a crashed MSE. Time to have a bit more of a think about it.

Happened to my daughters PC awhile back, I can't remember if I located all the files manually and deleted them or I used a 3rd party uninstaller like CC cleaner, in the end I think I put her back on avast.

Let us know how you go....

Did you try a restore back a couple of days ?

I was playing around still trying to uninstall. A little white flag came up on the tsk bar saying there were two problems to solve
1.Turn on MIcrosoft Essentials (recommended
2.Turn on Windows DEfender (recommended)

Naturally , I never turned em off, but applied turn on to both.
No1 just keeps looping back to the error message.
No2 turned back on, and did updates. It then installed them and did an auto scan, and came up with no problems.

The Defender system had a help area, and I have stered myself to this page

where it is doing a download.

Things are running real slow, and it's taking ages.
I'll try run that when it finishes, and as you say, if all fails, I will try the system restore.

It's really got me stu*fed because i've use the onecare removal before when MSE has faulted and it's always managed to remove MSE.

Have you tryed to run the MSE installer over the top?

All my restore points have now disappeared.

Cannot do another install, as it says only one can run, and one is installed.

Only thing I can think of next is to pick up the folder in windows and drop it in the delete bin, and try an install? What do you reckon??

I am assuming that this is it's folder...Microsoft Security Client..

have you tried going to msconfig and disable it from starting and stop it in the services, then try to uninstall it.

looks like your going to have too there is another folder in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft you'll need to delete too

Once you delete them you should run CCleaner

In services, the only things for security etc are:
Windows Firewall...Tick
Windows defender..tick

In startup
Microsoft Security Client....c\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\msseces.exe ...unticked

When I try go to the folder Microsoft Security Client in program files, and try to delete it, it won't let me because it says it is running, and to close it...I have not got it running that I can see.

What's the issue why you would like to uninstall MSE?
To uninstalll MSE kindly follow the steps below:

1. Download MSE from the website and save the file on the Desktop.
2. Open Command Prompt through RUN or Start Search by typing CMD hit enter. If you are using Vista right click on CMD and select "Run as Administrator".
3. In the Command Prompt console type: CD %USERPROFILE%\Desktop <- Hit ENTER
4. Type: msse <- then hit the TAB button.

All I get when I hit the TAB button is a DING DING DING through my speakers....GRR...what am I doing wrong??

I'm going to hit the sack now, and hope maybe a few pointers will maybe be here to try with a fresh mind in the morning, coz 5 hours at it now, and I have achieved zero.

have you tried revo uninstaller?

You should be able to delete the folder if you put the computer into safe mode because the MSE won't be loaded.

Hi again,

After a rather restless sleep, back up again and into it.

Here is a long update, but one which might be good for others to refer to in any similar situations...

I just received an email from Microsoft support in response to my help email.

They sent me some instructions to assist in the uninstallation of MSE

I followed their tutorial and all is now back to where it was...I will post that text under, minus some of my details which were in the text. Here it is...

I used link 1, and it ran and installed a program, and then went through the uninstallation procedure.

When it all finishes ( the program had a Mr Fixit Microsoft logo) it asks did it fix the problem thru' a little bullet style yes/ no questioneer, however I was unable to say whether it was gone, as when I looked in the Control Panel, I couldn't see it, but was unsure whether it had gone or not. I thought the only way to be sure, was to try and do the MSE install again, then answer the questioneer after.

I then tried to install again, but it faulted in the setup procedure to run the program.
It required a restart of the pc.

Thus I rebooted...naturally the wizzard and all that was running closed down, and I came back to my desktop at reboot.

I ran the MSE installation program and all went well. MSE installed successfully, and did any updates and a rescan, and is now working fine. The scan revealed no problems.

I then emailed Microsoft back, asking this....
Is it possible if you can advise if this was simply caused by an internal error in the program MSE, an updating problem, or perhaps would it have been an attack against my pc?

I trust this may help anyone else out there, and thank everyone for their attempts of trying to help me, I really did appreciate that effort.

In this instance I think we can say that Microsoft Support have lived up to their name, and thank goodness for that fine support !!

That's it for the moment, if I get a reply re my questions from microsoft, I will update the thread.

One point, Defender usually doesn't run when you have Security Center installed.

In that advice from Answers basically they want you 2 run the uninstall application that you downloaded to your desktop

ie mssefullinstall-x86fre-en-us-vista-win7 /U

But it is great that it has been fixed.
