| Member | I used to use work's version of McAfee, when it was OK for employees to use it on their home PC's..... but that changed a long time ago. So then I used AVG Free 7.5, which I thought was OK at the time. When AVG 8.0 came out I switched to Avast instead, which found a few nasties on some of the machines at home that AVG 7.5 had been totally oblivious to. |

My I.T guru HIGHLY recommended to me not to do this! One may say " oh you get that virus" and the other one says " no I thought you were getting it", so they both do nothing and your pc gets hit.. its up to you, But I would trust not to run 2 antiviruz progams at once. He says to tell you guys AVG avast kapersky steer well clear of norton$, and don't ever pay for it, its a pain and it just uses up resources. Last edited by Security-Tech : 24-07-08 at 11:16 PM.

| Member | Currently using Avast. Used to swear by NOD32, but I think they lost the plot a bit with their newer V3 version. Liked Kaspersky a lot, but dam, it was the slowest program i've ever installed and updated. Ever. I'm sure new virus's were written by the time it finished updating. I actually think A/V programs are a bit like motor racing. They seem to rotate around as to who's the best for a while. Honda wins 2 world championships in a row, and they relax and get blown away fro the next 2 years by Yamaha, then 2 years later, Honda catches up and over takes them again. I reckon the A/V's are like that too. |

Security-Tech, I did not say to run them simultaneously (however it might not be such a bad idea if you can tolerate the increased demand on resources and are in the habit of visiting sites notorious for transmitting virus infections). I continue to run a single anti-virus program (Nod32), firewall, (Zone Alarm Plus) and anti-spyware simultaneously on my own PC's without problems. I often temporarily install one or more anti-virus programs (one-at-a-time) in order to detect and remove virii on any system, which exhibits obvious virus-induced problems and have successfully done so for many years . Once you are sure that the system is virus-free, simply remove the temporary installation and restore your normal anti-virus program for every-day monitoring.

| Super Moderator | I've used NOD32 and Kaspersky and found those to be good. My work uses Macaffee and its awful, slows down the computers there something fierce. So much so that I "retired" two computers after they installed it because it sucked so many resources, that you couldn't even use them for web based stuff.
