Other....Norton Corporate edition (not the domestic version) and Sophos. Don't know if they are the best but what one doesn't catch the other usually does and vice versa.

- Scan inbound mail [IMAP]
- Scan inbound news [NNTP]
- Scan outbound news [NNTP]
- Heuristic sensitivity: high

Instant Messengers:
- MSN Messenger
- ICQ
- Trillian Messenger

Network Shield:
- Show messages

Outlook:
- Scan inbound and outbound mail
- Scan all messages on open
- Heuristic sensitivity: high

P2P Shield:
- Kazaa & KazaaLite
- Direct Connect
- Direct Connect++

Filesystem:
- Scan all files on write
- Scan selected files on open

Web Shield:
- Scan HTTP traffic

Never had a problem with avast since replacing Norton Internet Security.

Personally i can't fault kaspersky, extremely light on the resources and seems to catch most things and isn't intrusive. 7$ for a years subscription from ebay....about the only legit software i have.

I have mcaffee security center on another computer, it is more resource hungry than kaspersky (and previous mcaffee software), but it is free and seems to do a good job.

A lot of people recommend nod32, i think the FBI is/were using this as their scanning software...

Norton - have had a lot of bad experiences with it, very sluggish and poor performance and far too intrusive and a bitch to uninstall in some circumstances. Note, my experiences are limited to home versions of norton, i have heard that server/corporate versions are another beast (pretty good) altogether.

Cheers, RHCP.

I think of Norton as more of a virus than a antivirus

I use F-Secure supplied free by Optus, works well not as cumbersome as Nortons which I had previously for 5 years.

I can't believe you'd run a poll like this and leave TrendMicro off the list. It's "Other" for me!

At least he has something installed on his computer. Its rather ironic that Urban is laughing at someone when he nothing ( but nasties ) on his computer.

Kaspersky for me. I have tried almost all of them over the last few years and formed my opinion based on their performances ( or lack of ). Like RHCP , I purchased it via Ebay for a good price and wont be changing after trying the rest. I would rate Kaspersky as best and AVG as the worst by far.

AVG 8 with link scanner disabled and "slow scan" selected to use the least amount of resources.
