Default Truecrypt isn't safe - Development stopped

The authors of the encryption program TrueCrypt apparently suddenly warn using their own software. Currently, the project page explains how you can switch to BitLocker.

    For Linux Users.....

Create LUKS encrypted ext4 partitions. Most Linux Mint and Ubuntu based OS have this option enabled. Easily setup using the Disk Utility app.

    Well..
I'm not a data security expert but migrating sensitive information under Microsoft's encoding product raises the hair on my back...?
    Why not fix TrueCrypt?

My feelings the same. Truecrypt has not been proven to be insecure, the developers have decided to stop support and development and want out. There is currently a security audit being performed by a independent group, I find it suspicious that they wanted to dump development when someone else wanted to do an audit. But anyway, time will tell if it was a legit project or a front for something else.

The audit started well before they publicly dumped it. I doubt they'll find any holes, intentional ones at least, in truecrypt. Odds on the developers just didn't want to put the effort into keeping it working in the ever evolving Windows world. There's probably a pointer issue with very large media or the like.

Perhaps a successor of outstanding TrueCrypt will be available in a few months:

Are you nuts? Truecrypt team was gaged and forced to stop developing and spreading the product.
Truecrypt was, is and will be safe.

yes yes, use nsa forks to your pleasure. and something may be rumor to you, but actually is indeed a fact. difference is that some people don't just sit on a ####ing couch and re-post shit from 'trusted sources'. some people are actually implementing truecrypt to fight .gov and .mil, and succeeding.
oh, and have good luck recrtypting your data on w8 machine. great way to expose everything to nsa.
    #### forks, 7.1a works and will be safe for forseeable future.

I can see that being the problem.
Waiting for next DefCon meeting to hear about this.

So do you work for the NSA, fat chance. Why don't you post some links that categorically prove that the forks are NSA ?

So how do we know what's 100 % safe then? In the end we don't know anyway.

It is better to close the project than affect many users.
