Default Windows 7 planned upgrade message.

    Hi everybody,

My wife is getting this scam - upgrade to Windows 10 message box on her Windows 7 laptop.

The message reads your scheduled upgrade is on this day.

Can anybody inform me if this is a scam or microsoft trieng to put us over to a crap Windows 10 operating system which we certainly do not want.

    Thanks.

Sounds like someone clicked on the register to upgrade option sometime ago.

I have read into problems for Windows 7 users and this Windows 10 upgrade Microsoft scam seems to be widespread. My wife received this message tonight for the first time - she has never clicked on anything or seen any upgrade message before.

A lot of unfortunate users don't even get any warning of an upgrade. The computer just shuts off and starts an upgrade to Windows 10. A dirty way of getting people onto a crap system.

InfoWorld has some interesting stories about these shenanigans.

Please be wary everybody of this pest!

I too have upgraded one of my computers from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 with no problems at all.

In fact, I have upgraded many systems for friends and customers from various flavours of Windows 7 and Windows 8 to Windows 10 quite successfully for some months now and all systems continue to run without any problems whatsoever.

Can you please enlighten us, David, as to why you think W10 is so bad? I tend to be a late adopter of updates to Windoze, however. Of the 4 machines in regular use in this home, and the dozens of others that I have Updated to W10, I see no problems at all. FWIW, the oldest machine running W10 still has a XP license sticker on it and 2GB RAM. (OF course it ain't the quickest beast in the stable but is still a reliable workhorse.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

    Thanks guys.

I work with a couple of Level 4 IT technicians and they think your better off staying with Windows 7 and would not recommend it. I have a couple of friends who bought Windows 10 and have regretted it and say stay with Windows 7.

I have not used the system myself but it is just a number of people who use the system and that is their thoughts.

Well I am happy you guys think the system is fine and thank you for your input.

This can actually happen & was discussed in the following thread.

people are getting W10 upgrades without asking for them.
    Cheers, Tiny

I had three...one 7, one 8.1 and one 10. The wife used the win 7 one and woke up about two weeks ago to find it on 10. She swears she didn't push anything. Anyway, it works fine.

They cant be much in the way of technicians if they think you should stay with Windows 7. The opinion of users here (and literally everywhere else) is a resounding positive for Windows 10. Windows 7 is now 7 years old - Microsoft stopped mainstream support for its predecessor Windows Vista in 2012. How long do you think Windows 7 is going to be a viable concern for ?

Microsoft is allowing Windows users a free upgrade to Windows 10 for a short period of time. My suggestion would be to do it now (for free) rather than hang on to the past.

I am posting on an old Acer form factor PC that has Core2Duo and Windows XP stickers on it.....runnning Windows 10.
