Default Pc game to laptop without optical drive

My daughter has asked me for a game that she needs for a school project, i can get a pc version but would then need to transfer to her laptop that doesnt have a disc drive.
Not having done this for a game but could i make a disc image of the game then copy that to her laptop ?

as long as it does not have protection on the disc yes easily.

if there is protection on the disc then the copy will need to be done
    to suit .

once copied over then just use something like daemon tools that will install
    virtual drives
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it

An external USB optical drive costs about $35 ,that would do the trick!

or you can copy the files off the disc to a usb
    then run setup.exe
if it doesnt need the disk to run the game, cheering
if it does do as above, which game? theres lots of old no-cd patches around

To usb would be ideal, i wasnt sure if these game discs would allow it or not.
The game is " The Sims 3 " and is going onto a school laptop which is locked down pretty tight and only for a school project so not going to buy an external usb drive, i could buy the downloaded game but i'm trying to be a tightarse .

1: sims 3 requires the disc to load and play
2: if the lappy is locked down with the same software my kids was it wont play
3: you will have to use the external drive as i tried loading the virtual drive on the kids
and kept denying my every time.
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it

What if it was the downloaded version ? The teacher has given this as an option so assume it would be ok.

    not really
once installed just swap the exe for 1 of these to match the version
    (backup original exe 1st)

    When in doubt TRY IT!

Now, sometimes that could be disastrous, but with what you wish to do there is no risk involved.

    Follow Phil's advice.

It'll either work or it won't. Simple.

you need to get a copy of something like POWERISO install it then it will give you an option of creating a virtual drive
copy the game to the virtual drive from a usb stick and then install it
if the game needs to have the cd of it it will find it on the virtual drive

If I read this correctly, this is a program required for a Class activity (lesson) so why doesnt the School system provide the means to load and run the program seeing the laptop comes without an Optical drive?
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
