HFC uses a combination of fibre and coax.
A good example of this is Foxtel (via cable)
It's not dissimilar to fibre to the node, as it starts out with fibre main trunk lines to distribution points, where it interconnects to coax, which in turn connects the premises.
Broadband over HFC has been operating via Foxtel/Telstra for a long time.
I have VDSL which I guess is similar....that is fibre to the node and then Cat6 to the house. 300 meters of Cat6.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
