    Default Hand cleaner

    Hey dudes and dudettes!
I was working on my bike today and needed to wash my greasy hands. I grabbed the washing detergent and yeeoww when the powder hit my skinned knuckles etc!
When I was a young fella there was a green lanolin type hand cleaner in a tall tin. It seemed to be better than that gritty orange stuff from Super Cheap. Does anyone know where to get this? Or what do others recommend/use?

    Cheers,
    Leroy

I know the stuff you mean, just can't remember the name of it, used it for 20 years before I moved to Tassie & couldn't find it locally so went with the Fast Orange &/or Lightning Orange hand cleaners, which ever are available at local suppliers, which I like as well.

My mind is vast & full of info & now that I have started to think about the stuff it will come to mind eventually.
Hopefully some one else will remember soon & stop my thought process keeping me awake.
    Cheers, Tiny

There was a gel in a one gallon tin with a German name like 'Swarfager' or similar.
It stood about 200mm (10 inches) highand was 75mm (3 inch) square and it had a round lid you popped off.
I think it was a greenish blue in colour, put on dry and rubbed in well before washing off.
I do believe it wasnt overly cheap but it did work and didnt affect the skin either.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

I know the stuff your looking for that was around years ago Leroy, i used it all the time, the old man use to pinch 4 lt tins of the stuff from work wherever we ran out at home.

Would you believe the name has slipped my mind.....use to be in a round tin....just lift the lid and scoop out a bit to put in the palm of your hand.....would remove anything from grease to dried up oil paints on you hands.

These days it just simpler to wear rubber gloves.....less scrubbing.

+1 for the thin rubber gloves , they work for most jobs including wheel bearings. you can buy ex hospital expired date packs for $3 each from the markets. they dont like power steering fluid though

interesting; that is not the stuff I was thinking of.
The name came to me today while out horse riding.
    Protectolene.

It is a Hydrocarbon base with lanolin to protect the skin. That's why it disolves anything that is stuck on your hands.
Probably better off with the more natural citrus based cleaners.

Once I got the name I found thread on here about hand cleaners with it mentioned.

We always used a cleaner called Protectolene. It's a smoothe white cream in an orange tin.

Not only will it take any dried paint off your hands but there's nothing better at removing grease than this stuff.
It's also got lanolin so your skin never dries out.

    Loopy

PS Swarfega doesn't clean grease off very well.
