    Default DVD to Avi

    Hello

I'm sure this has been asked - but here goes anyway

to make a long story short - got a terrabit drive which is shared at work, a couple of us put tv series movies games etc on it for the others (about 20) to watch when doing night shift. Couple of us has a very extensive DVD collections and would all like to add them on the drive so I am chasing a bit of software that is simple to use to rip DVD's to avi's without removing the quality.

The guys that will use the software know how to turn a computer on - but not much more than click here click there go OK and works

is there anything out there that is really simple to use and works well?

    thanks

I like the combination of DVDDecrypter, AutoGK and/or Videora.

I use DVDDecrypter to RIP to single VOB file and then AutoGK to compress to, usually, Xvid and Videora to convert any AVI's to MP4 for the Ipod Video.

A good feature of DVDDecrypter is it's IFO mode where if you want to rip say a TV Series from DVD, you can select each episode in turn and make a seperate VOB for each episode then convert using AutoGK to smaller AVI's.

There are quite a few excellent tutorials on using these various proggies.

    Just to name a few.

I have tried various converters over the years, but have found that the above 3 programs suit my needs and produce excellent quality videos.

Naturally, opinions vary greatly, so best to take in all that people suggest, try, and deceide for yourself.

    Regards

I try,an Do,early version DVD Decrypt to rip vobs, files an dump into Quick Time reg.version straight to Divx, under All files settings,720p. works great for a small 700-800mb file size end result, stereo, prologic ,an sub,for most all!
end result is usb,sd,pc,ppc ,web, compatible for most everthing that does Divx.Playback!
    2 Step proccess ,not one,Sorry!

I have a little over 1500 Original DVDs which i need to convert to Divx so i can put them on my media player.
I have just downloaded and configured autogordianknot after reading this thread.
    Yep its a beauty,
I wanted to convert it to DIVX but a pop up window says this version will not do divx only Xvid.
    1. Is it worth trying the version that does Divx?
So im converting to Xvid now. Seems to be going a treat but still has about 3 hours to go so i cant have a good look at Xvid Quality till then.
    2. Is Xvid similar to Divx in there picture quality?
All im after is a finished filesize between 700-1gb in clear quality that plays on most things like Divx.

    G'day mate
try Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum 4 or Xilisoft DVD to DivX Converter 4.
both programs are great and strait forward and they will convert your DVD's to many different formats.
torrent sites good place to search for them.
it's handy if you use DVDDecrypter first to put the whole Dvd contents in your HDD as it will make converting faster.
    good luck.

Xvid and Divx are two ways to make MPEG 4 video. Divx is a commercial product, Xvid is a free open source product

I find little difference between them but prefer xvid because it is free.

I have the similar problem are the ones mentioned free?
    are they simple ?
how long does it take roughly per DVD?
Do I need to get the DVD on HDD first or can I do it out of the tray?
