1:Go to the menu on the dream and select files and play the TS file that was recorded
2:the dream will not record in any format other than TS
3: vlc should play it perfectly
I have managed to mount a network drive to my dm500s. I have initated a recording via the webif and I can see the file on the networked drive and can see it in the webif's movie screen.
It has the filename format of.... channel_name_date_time.ts
This would appear to be a raw recording of the transport stream.
I let the recording go for some time and when I stop I have a file of several hundred megabytes in size.
When I go to play it back it is basically usless, no desernable picture or sound, although you can tell that it is a video recording, just block and chunks of attemped video re-construction.
I have tried to playback the video via both the webif and VLC with no luck.
I have no problems with WebXtv streaming.
Naturally, one of my questions is, what am I doing wrong? and 2nd, how can I record into AVI/mpeg4 format?
and I would like to add, oceanboy need not reply, he is blocked.

I think it is something to do with the processing power / LAN output on the DM500 porkop. Movies "recorded" by the DM500 breakup. The problem is even worse if you have low LAN speeds (eg Wireless).
Watching videos/movies from another source are no problem. I think you will find that if you try and watch the DM500 recorded movie on a DM7000 (or PC), that you will have the same problems.
I tend to agree with you, except that I tried to watch the TS file from the PC that it was sitting on using VLC, which, should to my knowledge, playback TS files?? I wonder if the TS file has its encryption removed?? So much to learn and understand!
jump in any time oceanboy and point out any flaws in my knowledge/ability or any other personality trate you feel doesnt meet your high standards that you set for everybody else! Coz I wont read it.
everyone else, dont mind me, I tent to get a bit pissed off at forum nazi's sometimes and I apoligise to you now for it.
Not on Pli Jade it is not, else you had better the kids, the inlaws and few others about here the TV they are watching and recording via 5yr old 10mb wifi AP's all over the house does not work and they are not really recording nor are they watching the TV via streaming, looking at movies via the PLi Jade Movieplayer or otherwise...
Where do you guys come up with these statements?

I was able to replay the saved stream via VLC and also was able to save a stream via VLC and also via Media Player Classic. But not via The WEBIF.
At least I can record successfully.
Not sure why VLC wouldnt play it the other night???
BTW jonc, My 11MBit/s wireless data link is just on threshold for webX TV streaming. If one of the daughters logs onto the net then I can forget it. You must remember that the 11 MBit/s is actually equilivant to 5.5MBit/s as the radio system makes it Half Duplex, and I would guess that 5.5MBit is close to the rate of the data stream anyway.

make sure the your ethernet cables are terminated properly
both at the walls and patch leads. make sure theres no breaks in the cable as well.
this has caused issues in the past in slow network transfers
Does this work with DM500's though? I have NO problems at all with the
DM7000 whether over wireless or direct, but no success with the DM500.
And yes, this IS with PLi Jade on all machines...excellent image btw.
If it is just me with a DM500, is it possible the ethernet port on mine is semi stuffed?
There are mods available to fix ethernet speed issues with dm500's.
Basically change a couple of caps from memory...
DM500 and DM7000 use same cpu so speed should be identical.
Also...there are a few utilities around to convert TS to MPEG that make playback on a PC much easier to manage...
Been down that path and settled on a DM7020 ....much better idea....
Not true. 802.11b (the 11Mbps wireless standard) uses CSMA/CA (carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance). Communication is UP TO 11Mbps in each direction. If there is only one device communicating with the base station, it has full signal, & data transmission is mainly unidirectional (as it is with streaming video) the available bandwidth can approach 11Mbps. This reduces with the number of devices associated with the base station as, even if they aren't actually communicating, the base station has to poll each one sequentially. If one device has reduced bandwidth because of low signal (ie attenuation due to distance, walls or interfering signals), the performance of the entire network is reduced.Originally posted by porkop

11 mega bits is marginal for video.
Take off the protocol overhead and you are screwed....you will not get anywhere near the 11 mega bits.
Then factor in the weak cpu the dreams run on and it all falls apart.
mpeg1...yeah maybe.
Try at the powerpoint poptart
