    Default Austech Raffle

Due to not being able to make what I think is a realistic target , I intend to send an email out to all members to try and get the remaining donations and to also offer a bit of candy to achieve the target.

I have been in contact with Vivant Tech, and they have generously offered to supply me some of these receivers at cost price. So what I am going to do is raffle off as many of these as I can with profits going directly to the gofundme project.

I intend to offer 50 tickets at $5 each for each receiver. This provides for a reasonable profit, a low ticket price, and a very good chance of winning. As an example, in our last giveaway, we had 1 winner from around 750-800 entries. So for $5, you would have a 1 in 50 chance of winning which is a lot better than 1 in 800.

You can of course buy multiple tickets to improve your chances even further, there will not be a ticket limit to what you can buy. We will supply as many receivers as necessary, when we eventually cant sell 50 tickets on one we will refund those that have paid on that raffle.

I am hoping this will be a win/win situation for everyone, we need to raise a bit over $2000 to meet the goal. I think this is very achievable.

If the raffles go well, I might consider doing them on a regular basis in the future, ie, if a new product comes along that people are interested in, I will attempt to get some at trade price and raffle them with profit going to Austech (while we make hosting bill every month, there are a lot of other things that need doing that cost money)

But for the moment, our goal is $2000 for a very worthy charity.

Any good mathematicians out there ? Someone who is good at odds might be able to suggest the best way to have the best chance of winning if we had say 5 receivers to raffle.

    Buy 1 ticket in each draw ? (1 in 50 chance x 5 draws)

Buy 5 tickets in one draw ? (5 in 50 chance)

Just spend $5 and hope for the best ? Or spend $100 hogging one draw ? (20 tickets out of 50)

Anyway, you have to be in it to win it, will you be in it ? Prizes will be freighted from China to winners, so you dont have to be Australian to be in it.

    Hi admin / all.
Can I ask what the original request provided to the fund.
I know I donated to a level which I felt was consummate with my ability and perhaps income level
but would be rather disconcerted if from a forum the size and membership of this failed to achieve any sort of prerequisite,
I'm mean if the number never got above $1300 then that really is disappointing and I'm not denigrating what you are attempting here, I think it's a wonderful idea, but perhaps theres a way of perhaps rewarding those of us that may be tempted top so called double dip at the tough.

    Just a thought
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

I dont know how much was actually donated, I can only take a guess based on what appeared on the Gofundme page after I appealed on here. I believe most from that time was from Austech members and my "guesstimate" would be that we have contributed about $1400 so far.

Realistically, that $1400 came mainly from what I would call "core" Austech members, long term regulars who know that this isnt something I would normally ask of them. Given that the amount came from a small group, I am hoping that by doing a mail out to all members that I could at least get half the remaining amount from donations and the other half via raffle.

While I am very appreciative of those that donated, I cant really see any way of doing things differently in fairness to everyone at this stage.

Currently at $2894, a rough estimate of $1500 donated since being on this forum but of course not all donations came from austech so it's hard to know how much we have put in. Some really great amounts have been donated. The good news is that the half way point has been reached and it's all downhill from here. The raffle will be a great injection to the cause.

As I said in the other thread,

well done Andrew, that will get everyone interested; hell, I doubt I need one of them U4 quads, however I'll buy a ticket anyway, even though I have already donated.

    Let's help this kid.
    Cheers, Tiny

I'll be in for four tickets to match my previous donation.
PM me and I'll give you my new credit card details for payment.
They should also be used for my next Premium Member payment.
    Cheers

Sorry for the slow reply. After 9 years of fighting, I have finally had a win in a battle I have been having in regards to flooding at my home. Its been a long and stressful process, I am looking forward to being able to sleep better at night...finally.

Unfortunately I am going to have to shelve this idea....at least for the moment The buy price now has to be in USD and simply, there isnt a great deal of money to be made after currency conversion, so for the meantime I am just going to go ahead with a mailout asking for donations and will see exactly what that brings.

Regardless, I think we will look at doing at least one raffle in the near future, as some money will be better than none and its a good chance for someone to win something at good odds.

Congratulations on your win Admin. I'll try and find a couple more bucks to donate in the next week or so.
