    Default Garmin 64ST map question

    G'day all,
Just received a Garmin 64st as a gift and being a GPS virgin I have no real idea what im doing yet.
One thing I have noticed is that the map seems pretty light for detail. Are there other maps avail;able for purchase which give a better level of detail than the one that comes with the unit?

    Cheers...

    There's several map options.

I think that model ships with 40m contour maps.

I have a different Garmin model, but also wanted more detail and went for the 5m contour map.

It depends on what you want to do with it, but there's certainly various additional maps available.

First, you need to decide what you want/need to do with the device.

Once you know that, you can select from the maps on offer that provide those wanted features.

I buy mine from Johnny Appleseed. (as per the link)

They have physical stores as well as online.

They are very helpful, even just to chat to for advice.

yeah. the latest hand helds are being shipped with .

OK for the novices, just a little short on detail.

You can upgrade to the or , I have both & both have their individual strengths & weaknesses.
I do like both of them as individual products, though.

We do alot of 4wd'ing, hunting and just generally exploring and find the preloaded map on the ST vague, lacking detail and missing tracks. Would like a much more detailed version.

    Was there a link?

    Edit: Saw the link.....Cheers

There are additional links in Tiny's post as well.

Yes, the full version will provide a lot more detail.

I use the 5m topography maps a fair bit to locate high points, but turn that level off when I don't need it as there is so many contour lines when zoomed out, it looks cluttered.

You can load different maps and turn on/off layers, etc, but it's nice to have greater detail available when you want it.
