    Default Bluddy Dunnies!

The float valve in our main dunny has decided that it does not want to open when you flush it. I've pulled it apart, cleaned all the lines out and even wiped some Vaseline over the rubbers and the bloody thing will work until the cistern is full when it shuts the water off, as per normal, then, when I flush, it won't let any water in until I pull the thing apart and put it back together again. And, no, the float is not binding on the shaft, as far as I can tell, everything is moving as it should.

Looks like a trip to the hardware store for a replacement.

When mine decided it was time, I bought one of those floatless ones and I was surprised how easy it went in.
It was advertised as 'Universal' and it certainly was.
I cant remember the price now but it was worth every penny because it went in easily and did the job and has worked well ever since.

Ive got a dribbling inlet valve, tank water a bit of silt and they clog up .
I dont think my one is serviceable a new one is only $17 so I will get a new one an see if I can service the old one as a spare.
Major problem is I have a very noisy and temperamental pump right under the bedroom that keeps kicking in to let me know when its dribbling

Time to either start snoring louder than the Pump, put in some earplugs, put some sort of sound deadening over the pump or (SHOCK/HORROR), fix the pump !!

When I looked at my old unit, although it looked clean and the material seemed to flex ok, I decided it was better to buy a new one and be done with it.

Note the name and model, go to a plumbers supplies, buy a new rubber seal kit. When pulling apart lay it out so you know where the new washers go, you will be surprised how many washers there are in a unit, all the best
NO had a rethink, buy a replacement kit, just bought one for a commercial job but cannot remember the price, as per Gordon, read the instructions thoroughly as they can be painful
There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Madness"

I would go to your nearest plumbers supply and by a new fluid master inlet valve easy to fit, comes with good instructions.

I only replaced it last year, Given that they are pretty simple, couldn't stuff up a re-build, but getting the parts might be a major job. Yes, a new one is only a few bucks, so I'll go down that route. Just a little peed because it's only about 12mths old.

What valve did you replace it with last year?

Cant remember the brand, just got the only one that our local hardware store had. I'd love to find one of the old float on the end of a lever type (like back in the 50s). They are so simple, the concentric float with the pin through the rubber diaphragm are more trouble than they are worth.

Ive gone on town water to let my pump dry out and run some chlorinated water through the toilet for a few days as Im going shopping to the big smoke in a few days and want to see if this works first.
The pump went silly today squirting water out of the casing so Im replacing all washers in the house and pull the pump apart to see if ii can seal the leak.
It may not be my toilet inlet valve, but I think it is as well.
If the pump wasnt so irritatingly noisy I would have ignored it for another year or so,Im a bit worried about the wet patch attracting snakes and termites though

Just sat down on the thing to make a donation to my favourite charity (The Turnbull benevolent fund). Dunny flushes ok but there is now a blockage in the elbow. Gonna have to get in there and clean the crap out....literally.....

(Now I've posted this, hopefully it will fix itself like last time........ yeah! right!

Pump is still off at my place tried sealing the leak with silicone and it blew out under pressure
Hate it when plan A doesnt work (it was cheap and quick and required virtually no effort)
Toilets have cleaned up with the added chlorine of town water
I imagine its killed all the good bacteria in my guts as well.
Bread takes ages to rise on town water, it kills the yeast.
I was making pizzas tomorrow will have to remember to get a cup of tank water
At least the toilet fills fast and quickly again
I will try Plan B on the pump tomorrow (lots more silicone and cross my fingers)
I have a spare inlet valve on special about $12.
Worst case is pull pump apart change O ring and plastic weld if it has a crack
    Hope plan B works

Dunny seems to be back to normal, a few more flushes and a bit of fencing wire seems to have cleared whatever was blocking it.....

I ignored the pump for another day
Pizza dough rose well on the tank water
Should be good on Saturday after a 48 hour ferment in the fridge

See if I can be bothered with the pump tomorrow now the pizza catastrophe has been avoided
