Nope. Reliable LPR is expensive.
Hi all,
A client has asked me to quote on an LPR solution. His requirement is simple enough, he wants a single camera LPR system to record video and write number plates to a database so he can keep a record of every vehicle that comes and goes, day and night. I've put together a quote using top quality gear and software (Dell server running Milestone with the LPR add-on and a decent camera specifically designed for LPR, Raytec IR illuminator plus other required bits and pieces) and it's going to end up in the vicinity of about $12k for him all up but that's a bit beyond his current available budget. I'm not interested in using cheapie or unproven solutions, but is anyone here aware of a robust, more cost effective solution than what I've quoted?

Check out ispy with the License Plate Recognition PlugIn works really well with a good 4MP IP Camera such as a Hikvision

We do a HIKVISION camera with ANPR (LPR) built in. As a reliable affordable option, its the best.
Actual LPR cameras are expensive, but can capture number plates at speed, even at night with the car having their head lights on high beam.
Cheaper solutions rely on controlling the speed of the vehicles at the capture point. Add in a normal camera is extremely unlikely to get a number plate on a vehicle at night because of headlights.
Then you have to write your software yourself. Open source will only get you so far, so depending on exactly what you want to do with the data, you'll likely need to add onto the code.
