    Default NUC to 5.1 Receiver

    Hey Everyone,

Hope you are all enjoy the weekend.

I'm trying to connect my NUC to my 5.1 receiver so I can watch videos off my pc without having to transfer them to a usb and play them on the DVD player.

I bought something similar to this

and have connected it up to my pc through the usb cable and then to my receiver using the optical out.

But I can only ever get the front 2 speakers to work. Any suggestions of what I'm doing wrong.

    Cheers.

I suggest reading the article at , paying particular attention to the sections with the headings, USB and SPDIF (Digital Optical or Digital Coax).

The article at might also be helpful.

I might be missing something here with your setup but I have my NUC running HDMI straight to the receiver then onto the TV so no requirement for an external sound card. 7.1 is supported by the hardware and I've not had any issues using it this way yet.

I'm running Ubuntu with Kodi if that helps.

Same here, my NUC is connected to my AV receiver via HDMI configured for 5:1 - no problems.
One note though. When you configure your sound card make sure it is not set up for Stereo as that will give you just 2 channels.

Yeh unfortunately my receiver doesn't have hdmi maybe time for an upgrade...

Sounds card is set up for 6 channels.
