The official release is supposed to be Friday this week
But as usual it's been disclosed early
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

I kind of agree with others in that article that a car no longer made in Australia and just a few cm bigger than a Camry should not be called a Commodore anymore.

I agree... I would have thought Holden would want to embrace something entirely new with a new identity... a fresh start.
The Commodore name should be relegated to history... a (sad) end of an era.

I am not sure whether the Commodore name should stay or go. What insular Aussies forget that the Commodore name is not Aussie anyway - it is from the Opel Commodore that is a direct ancestor of both the Aussie Commodore and the Opel Insignia and on which all the Commodores up to a few years back was based on.

The could always resurrect the Kingswood....
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

But, but, but, Commodore was never a Aussie named car anyway from day one.....it was taken and used here from the Opel Commodore, which was used by Opel from back in 1967.......

The same as the XD Falcon up to the current basic body shape was based on the Ford Grenada.
As far as I am aware the only Aussie designed cars since WW2 that were not based on something else was the P76 and the Mitsubushi 380. I am sure someone will correct me if I am not correct.

Yes, but Opel ceased using the name around 1982, so for most of it's life, Holden Commodore had the name to itself, becoming an iconic Australian-built car..... it was never a re-badged Opel.
Given 2017 will see the end of the Australian-built Commodore, I still think it would be more fitting to give the new imported vehicle a new identity.

Watch old british TVs shows like Midsomer Murders and Frost and you will see what look like VB and VN Commodores running around - these are Vauxhall Carltons, the Vauxhall badged Opel product. These are not like the recent Vauxhalls which were rebadged HSV vehicles.
A bit like out Taxi Racing Supercars - only exist is Aust and NZ as they are not competitive anywhere else - we are a very inward looking lot.

Maybe for the Mk1 Granada but the Mk2 is what the XD was based on - similar length, width, but slightly shorter wheel base.

I really don't really care what Holden, Ford, Methusela call their cars....are they any good is the question. We all have our preferences and view as to what is aesthetically pleasing.
I think the new Commodore is just plain ugly. It might grow on me (the Ford certainly has) but it just looks like an oversized disposable Korean runabout to me.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
I don't think Ford or Holden have made a truly Australian car for a very long time. As others have said, right from the outset, the Commodore has only been a local variant of a "global" car sold by GM all over the place.
I remember admiring a two door VK Commodore cough... sorry.. Vauxhall Cavalier when I was in the UK about 20 years ago:
