Default Seagate 2tb external hard drive failure.

    Hi guys

My aging external seagate has died. When powered up I get 3 clicks and it fails to load up. I need to try fix this as it contains all my movies on the drive from past 5 years.

Any suggestions how I can get it working enough to backup the data off it?

Backup backup backup. No excuse these days. Hdd's are dirt cheap.

I backup my media hdd to another hdd, just in case!!!

To assist you, maybe, just maybe the USB part could have died so just
remove the hdd and put it in a caddy and see how you go, but I don't
hold out much luck for you.

    Give SeaTools a try.
    You might get lucky

In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

Thanks yeh I had been meaning to buy a bigger drive and back it up as. Do you know if the drive will plug into a normal sata port on the PC? Highly annoyed if I can't retrieve the data.

The drive will plug into a normal sata port on your PC, but I don't like your chances with the click of death, quite common with the Chinese made 2TB Barracuda's (Model ST2000DM001) they use, I haven't had a problem with the same HDD's that are made in Thailand.
