I'm pretty sure you can.
1. Make a time machine backup on a usb (go System Preferences...Time Machine)
2. To restore hold down CMD + R on bootup to enter recovery mode and select time machine backup
I have an Apple MAC mini
Nice little unit but I must admit I'm not an Apple user and really just stumble my way around it.
With my Microsoft units I use an image backup system by Paragon.
This system enables one to boot from a proprietary USB and back up the entire BOOT (or any other HDD) drive.
Its a system that works well for me given the parameters / requirements I have.
I would like to be able to utilize this paragon system to back up the Apple MAC but I can't seem to find a way to make the Apple MAC boot from a USB
Is it possible to make an Apple MAC Mini boot from its USB Port ??
Cheers
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

Thanks Mandc,
But...... There is always a BUT......
I really want to use the Paragon Software to achieve the backup.
I've used the Time Machine and as a software package it works well, but I really want the MAC to boot from my Proprietary USB.
cheers

Oh OK. So the Paragon backup can do both windows or mac images?
This is a free bootup usb maker but only works on intel macs (early 2006 onwards had intel)

Thanks mate,
To answer your question - I really don't know.
I'm still at the "Suck it and see stage" (Perhaps I should do more research B4 asking the questions )
What I thought might be a possible experiment was to back up my MAC with the Paragon software (if Possible) and then attempt to re image my Surface Pro 3 with the Mac image and see if it might work.
I figure that while they are very, very different operating systems they essentially (under the skin) both Intel machines - my Mini is pre 2006.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Cheers

Ok, if it is pre 2006 then it has the G4 processor so any image cannot work with any intel machine.

Ohh well thanks for that - Like I said it was just an idea, but your help really is appreciated.
