They just need to claw back more money from the poor and handicapped to pay for it and it will all be fine

This just shows how out of touch these pigs are

    Average Aust wage is $78832 ( )

    Backbencher BASE salary is $199040 ( )

Or to but it another way more than 2 1/2 times the average wage.
The sooner we limit their remuneration to a set percentage of average wage the better. I would suggest 2x weekly wage for backbenchers + 5% bonus for every time they get re elected, similarly 3x for junior minister & maybe 4x for PM.

Before anyone says but pay less get less quality we already have the poor quality so why should we pay so much? Also all of their entitlements / expenses should be treated the same way as ATO treats the rest of us. Eg if you travel for 2 weeks & only 1 week is work then you can only claim 50% of travel expenses etc.

Yesterday it was Shadow Treasurer Bowen caught out, and today Shorten and his family......no wonder they have left the press to do all the work.....(funny, not a peep on the ABC or Fairfax)

I'd post links, but I can't be bothered...from todays Australian...

Madtech says that a backbencher gets about 2 1/2 times more than the average wage earner is somewhat short of the mark as I would estimate it is closer to 4 times when you take into account their FREE Medical/Hospital/Medications plus other perks that are available to them.

What caps it off is its for Life and not affected if they join the workforce.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Kicking and screaming mate, kicking and screaming...

It all comes down to the press giving up once there are no more paper sales (or ratings) and moving on to something else.

If there is a single federal politician who follows up with a solution that is passed by all parties to restrict the wholesale feeding frenzy most politicians see as a given right it may renew my faith in the fact there are still ppl who think of the common good before themselves.......................................b ut I wont be holding my breath

You are correct. Those numbers I gave are based purely on salary.

I have not allowed for their over the top stupidly generous, unfunded super & other lifetime (sometimes) perks. Their justification for the super super is that they can be voted out at anytime, well guess what sunshines, we, the real workers, can be sacked at any time, or have our employer go broke etc. These scum can only be sacked at each election.

If they want the population as a whole to have any respect for them they must stop putting themselves above the masses & all of their super, pensions, expense reimbursements should be exactly the same as for the rest of us. I don't get to take my partner on work trips & have the boss pay for her.... does anybody else? Well neither should these pigs at the trough.

    Gone!

Embattled Turnbull government cabinet minister Sussan Ley has resigned from the frontbench following revelations she used taxpayer-funded trips to buy property and attend New Year's Eve functions.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced Ms Ley's resignation on Friday afternoon, after receiving the findings of an investigation into her travel claims from the secretary of his department.

He refused to reveal the findings, telling reporters in Sydney her decision to resign was the "right judgment".

What a load of crap....and still no mention on the ABC of the senior Labor politicians involved, let alone the Greens...

An independent body is irrelevant. Its the SYSTEM, not the umpire, that is the problem. Stricter rules could be initiated already if the politicians decide to REALLY revamp entitlements. The ALP and the Coalition have done a deal to make it go away....

And as for changing "entitlements" to "expenses", this was done months ago. So, either the press release is just a scam OR its just plain bad reporting.

Those statistics are a bit out of touch too.

How many people do you know who earn $78832 ?
That 'average' is heavily skewed with a relatively small amount on a very high income including our pollies.
More than 2/3 of tax payers earn less.

Perhaps this may go some way to explaining things !!

One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he
asked about his bill, and the barber replied, 'I cannot accept money
from you, I'm doing community service this week.'
The florist was pleased and left the shop.
When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a
'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.
Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill,

the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing
community service this week.' The cop was happy and left the shop.
The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a 'thank
you' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.
Then a Member of Parliament came in for a haircut, and when he went to
pay his bill, the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from
you. I'm doing community service this week.' The Member of Parliament
was very happy and left the shop.
The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen
Members of Parliament lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between
the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.
