You cannot assume that television (or radio) signals which are free-to-air in their country of origin will be or should be FTA in other areas (irrespective of the method of delivery).

For example, the BBC is FTA in U.K. but is not FTA in other areas, due to broadcasting/copyright restrictions etc.

BBC (government) and other (commercial) U.K. broadcasters (ITV, TV4 etc.) utilise geo-blocking to restrict access to other areas.

Similarly, commercial television and radio broadcasts legally provided and received in one state of Australia are not able to be received legally in other states due to licencing and royalty (payment) restrictions etc. Such signals do not observe state boundaries.

Many prosecutions have taken place overseas in relation to such broadcasts and the resulting copyright infringement (leading to loss of income by copyright holders). Quite possibly Telstra is simply enforcing such restrictions locally by blocking the streams you refer to.

Im not watching BBC..but do try to watch news channels around the globe that are freely available via the news channels own websites... what I think is happening is that although they are watchable via their own websites perhaps they are blocking when one uses a direct stream link to the content (which is needed to use in the Strong box)....it seems now to me that its not telstra per se blocking..but 'akamai' related stream/content servers. My guess is that they have some smarts to detect a direct connection and subsequently block IP addresses to many other akamai served content unrelated to the original stream link.
