    Default Asus Computer Aspire Z3-615

I've been given a touch screen Acer which seems to want to run but theres's no activity (dead) on the screen,I had a bit of a scrounge on the acer site but no info there, the manual for this model
is a general info book that dosn't give much info at all.
I've got the back off and would like some info on the motherboard connections to see if I can splice a hdmi or vga video connection to it to give me some more info, it does't do any alarm noises and the hard drive and cd drive seem to be working so it may be a failed display so any direction to look for a manual would be handy.

The Aspire Z3-615 review at shows the rear panel, which has HDMI Out, so why don't you connect it to the HDMI input on a TV receiver to see if the computer is booting up and working?

The write-up also indicates that an "Nvidia GeForce 840M (Optional)" video card can be fitted.

Thanks Tristen, although the unit is a Z3-615 the layout of the jacks on the side seem to be different, and I cant see how I can fit another card in it,I'll take some photo's tomorrow and post them.

yep,not looking at right area, dosn't look good.mouse power works, keyboard dosn't light up and nothing on that hdmi output socket to a monitor, looks like it could be the motherboard after all.

    Thanks for the update.

Have you checked the power supply (PSU)?

If PSU is O.K. remove RAM one stick/module at a time, remove any other cards progressively to see if there is any sign of life.

only 1 ram module, tested all fuses and voltages on the motherboard(voltages are written alongside fuses),left it alone at present, one of the places I visited suggested that a corrupted bios can do the no-screen thing but because I cant see the screen I wont be able to reload a bios anyway, its the "chicken and egg" thing, because theres nothing on the screen I cant even get to switch the video out to the out jack, btw the power supply is one of those switched power pack that you plug in to the motherboard,no internal power supply.
I'll let it sit for a while, bit of a shame because its a expensive one and the owner mentioned that Acer told him its only got a 1 year warranty anyway so dont bother us.

Eliminate the on-board video by trying another video card - from memory, I think there's provision on the motherboard to fit one.

did you try another stick of ram though?
leave battery out for a few hours?
is there a cpu fan, does it spin?

I have to go 35Kms to buy another ram chip, still got that bit of info in reserve
    batt left out all day
cpu fan runs,cd device goes in and out, it seems to appear that it gets to POST, so ram might be the answer, just got to go and buy one I guess. I would be usefull to know how to test a led display

been looking at this, dont know if it may help..

i always troubleshoot by simplicity, well i try

you got power - fan spins
    doubt the cpu died
onboard graphics so unless the gpu on the board is fried

need ram to post - always, no matter what ppl say or you read

its lappy ram by the looks, probably generic, ddr3 ?

    why drive,

you'll have that in 5 days,

ps. recovery disk wont make it post

pss. is ram 1.35v or 1.5v

well a new memory module didnt help so back to the drawing board, its strange that there is no sounds on startup,ie no error signals so it could be a dead mother board also.

can you take the mb out?
hook it to a external monitor

important: is there a cmos battery? have you pulled it out for 24 hrs?
sometimes mb's just get a corrupted bios, fan spins, no picture, but everything actually works

so its a must to drain the bios memory by removing battery & power, then put it all back in & try again (use new ram)

if not, the mb is stuffed
