Default Dell inspiron 11 3000 won't load OS, device Driver missing!

I have a Dell Inspiron 11 3000 (3168, Tag GS5B0C2) that will not allow the re-installation of Win7 or win10 OS. I have tried all combination of the BIOS Legacy/UEFI - Secure boot (OFF) settings, along with the USB boot memsticks having multiple different versions of Win7 and Win10.

I have even loaded Linux/GPart on to a USB memstick, booted into Linux Gparted and wipe the hard drive clean.

This laptop was given to me because someone, prior to me, had done "something" and it would not boot whatsoever or respond to any keystrokes other than Bios setup(F2) and boot order (F12), and I would get an on screen display of either generic DOS "No boot device" message or a Dell message saying "No boot device"!

As it stands with the hard drive wiped, and a bootable USB memstick loaded with either Win 7 OR WIN 10, the installation process proceeds normally right up to the point where you choose your OS install hard drive and then an error message is displayed that says "A required drive device driver is missing" that does not appear to be on either version (Win7 or Win10) of the bootable USB memstick.

So how do I acquire/supply/provide that driver during either installation process? A second USB drive? and where do I get that driver from?

    See attached pics ..

    thanks in advance

    Agreed,

Not all computers are happy with USB stick OS installation... DVD usually works fine.

Being a Dell (no, not the singer ) it will probably require the chipset drivers , which the windows installation process normally gives you the option if you wish to load any drivers first.

These are normally integrated on the Dell installation disc.

You can download drivers from the Dell website.

Try using: 'Drivers by Tag' option at the bottom of the web page.

    Hope this helps.

OK, info update. I opened this machine up and there is NO HDD or SSD in this unit, just a permanently mounted 32gb MMC chip from Sandisk (circled in yellow)! see third pic

I d/led a couple(MTV I can't update the Bios because i can't get to a command prompt to execute) Dell suggested file(s), in (f6flpy-x64.zip) extracted those 6 files to 2nd USB and chose that 2nd USB memstick when Win7/10 install stopped and asked for drivers for the on-board mmc 29gb device. What seems to be the drivers and driver install program starts~stops, and still Win7/10 will not install to the 29gb MMC drive!

If the Sandisk MMC 29gb drive is configured as UEFI, and the Win OS install isn't recognizing it because BIOS isn't controlling it, AND I change BIOS from Legacy to UEFI to control it, then this Dell won't boot from the either USB (win7 or the Win10)!

personally if i could grab an external drive i would because usb install
some times work other times they dont due to bios setups , also a work around
could be install winxp then do an upgrade to with 7.

To get into the bios and check how upto date it is
You can access the Dell Inspiron's BIOS utility by pressing the "F2" key on the laptop keyboard as soon as the laptop starts
up and displays the Dell logo. If you do not press the key quickly enough, the operating system will begin to load normally.
If this happens, you will need to power down the laptop and try again, pressing the F2 key as soon as you have pressed the power button.

Joezep, I don't have a command prompt to run that from, and if I use the setup tool recommended in that link on a second PC, it merely creates/installs the Win(whatever version) ISO to a USB mem stick. During install it will come across the same problem, whichever ISO I used above, it will not have the drivers for the Sandisk MMC 29gb "hard drive"!

Thanks everybody for the replies, but I don't think the installation medium(CD/DVD vs USB) is the problem.
Both USB memsticks with the Win7/10 ISO's installed boot fine and are functioning perfect up until the point where a destination device is required for the OS to be installed on.
The drivers for the Sandisk MMC 29 gb drive are required and are not on the USB memsticks, and the install is asking for a location where they can be found
It's Dells screwy idea for a hard drive (Sandisk/MMC) that needs special(?) drivers to be recognized by the Win OS!

diavlo i have formatted it a number of times using the inherent format command in the picture above, and with the linux gpart program, when booted to Linux!

    i boot to linux.
    run gpart.
    format disk to ntsf
    exit linux
reboot with Win 7 or 10 USB loaded memstick( ihave two separate USB sticks each with a bootable version of Win OS)
the install starts fine and stops at destination choice for the OS to be installed to!

    thanks for input.

I can see that you have been around the traps with this problem.

It seems to me that it's time to contact Dell to see if they can provide assistance.

The problem lies with WHATEVER OS I try to install with!

The OS (Win10 or Win7, UEFI or LEGACY) it needs to access the "MMC 32gb" chip as a hard drive. I shot an email off to Sandisk (mfr of the MMC32gb Chip) and they say it was specially made for Dell and they cannot/will not supply the driver to me!

From Sandisk . . . "You have reached the SanDisk retail support department. The product you are referring to is an OEM product sold directly to top tier laptop manufacturers only. We do not have any retail enduser support for this product. All technical support for this product is provided directly from the laptop manufacturers. Unfortunately, our retail products support team will not be able to assist you with this concern. You will need to contact the laptop manufacturer for assistance. Thank you for choosing Sandisk! Best regards, James SanDisk @ Global Customer Care"

And the real bite in the A$$ is what laptop/computer these days comes with a 32 gb hard drive??

By the time you load the OS, (approx 15gb) and whatever other necessary utilities (AV, Spyware, Office) you're left with 5-8gb of HD space!

    DELL are you serious?

Even Win10 with UEFI boot, it looks for the drivers. As far as Win7 numerous google replies say Win7 is feasible OS install onto this Dell 11 3000. The problem lies in getting the driver for that mmc 32gb "HDD" chip.

This site had the Windows 10 upgrade fail as well due to a device driver missing!
"The Windows 10 installer wouldn’t recognize the ssd. It kept on asking for drivers."

Thanks for all of your help, for $150.00 price tag on this Dell 11-3000, I'm think I'm going to recommend to my donating friend to buy something OTHER than a Dell especially something with MORE than a 32 gb Hard Drive!! What was Dell thinking?

The model computer you refer to is the bottom end version.

It's a Dell product so do the obvious and ask Dell for assistance with the problem!

I've struck this problem before some years back. IIRC the work around was boot using a live OS Format the drive as NTFS, copy all the installation stuff to a "setup" folder on the drive and then run setup from there. Obviously there's a bit of stuffing around because you have to start setup from the live OS, but IIRC, that worked. Can't be certain that is how I did it, but that might be a start.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Done a similar thing before, either download the OEM Dell disk which will have the driver incorporated or download the driver and incorporate it into a generic windows disk.
I would have thought w10 would have the driver already....

there are a number of recent updates there, try updating the bios and drive firmware via a windows live disk.....

Hoe, I went to the link you list above to get the "DELL Approved" system image with MMC driver and this is what happened . . .

You MUST download a DELL "dellsystemdetectlauncher.application" file first, to start the Dell SER TAG: GS5B0C2 Image download!

How the hell am i supposed to install a Dell system Detect program on a computer that doesn't start/run/boot up?
