If you're talking about "pairing", that sounds more like BlueTooth than WiFi?
Andrew
Several months ago my Son bought a 2 camera Home surveillance kit from a friend which works a treat.
One problem though is there is NO NAME what so ever on the box, Monitor or cameras.
It uses the usual format of seeking to connect, press Pair and it works.
So today arrived a 4 camera surveillance with monitor and I tried to use one of its camera's to my Son's monitor but it wont connect.
I had hoped that all WiFi was the same but obviously their not.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

There are different frequency bands used for WiFi and several different 'channels' used within those bands.
'Pairing' usually matches the operating channel, but if the systems are not on a compatible band, that can't happen.
Agreed, pairing is a term more commonly used with bluetooth, but it can apply to matching WiFi channels.

yep not all are compatible , i run 2 systems , - Swann ADW-340 x 3 cams , and ADW-350 x 3 cams , wireless , i think they run on 2400mhz band .
and cameras not interchangeable , won't pair with other model , they are model specific ,
hope this helps ,
Both sets run on 2.4 GHZ and they use the term WiFi and 'Pairing' which in this case I take it means is for a single unit (Monitor) to individually connect to each camera so the Video from each can be displayed on a single screen at the same time.
The Monitor allows you to toggle between a single camera or all four on screen at once but could you imagine the mess if all the camera's were on exactly the same frequency without this 'discrimination' between each camera?
specs say it transmits on Ism 2400-2483 MHZ,
Modulation type GFSK with the Monitor receiving the same.
I wonder do the manufactures of the cabled type of cameras make them 'Brand specific' as well?
These WiFi systems are really no easier to install than the tethered type due to its needing a power source unless it runs on batteries which will need recharging or replacing sometime.
The moral of this saga is to buy a full set of cameras at the same time even if its a 'known' brand because you may not be able to add to the system at a later date.
