    Default Happy Birthday to Austech

This year is 20 years since I originally couldn't work out how to copy a playstation game, and after being abused on another forum, started this one.

This is significant milestone for a forum in this day and age, at least 90% of forums have gone bum up since then and due to social media, few forums still exist. Austech is lucky that it has a good core group of members, some who have been around since that late 90's period.

Obviously we should do something to celebrate, but I am unsure with 20 year or 21 years is more appropriate ?

What are your thoughts ? Please vote in the poll, but also as important is your comments.

PS - No, we cant have strippers.

Multiples of 5 or 10 I think... so 20 is a good number.

I'm going with 21, so I may be able to attend the party. There is going to be a party, isn't there?

Seriously, congratulations. There are only three fora which I regularly inhabit. The first was based in Pommieland and I'd love to meet some of the members there, but the chances, at this time, are remote. The second is this place, at least I stand a chance here. The third is based in the republic of the USofA and there's little chance I'll go there before I see Pommieland.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Wow 20 years for some of you!

I came here looking for info on VAST in 2010 & the info gained from here led me to being one of the first to have a travellers authorisation to receive VAST FTA TV.

Ever since then I've gained a lot of info & help from members here on many subjects & I try to give some back when I can.

I feel this place is a bit like the Hotel California, You can check-out any time you like, But you can never leave!
    Cheers, Tiny

Admin, I forget the exact reason why, but everybody's who was a member before, had their "Join Date" reset to Jan 2008.

Did/Do you have any idea when MY actual "Join Date" was? I'm thinking 2000!

If you joined in 2000 you would have been a member of cdcopyworld.
    Did you register with cdcopyworld?

The reason for the 2008 join date was because we lost the forum database due to hardware failure.

If I remember correctly, after the 2008 'crash' everyone actually had to re-register... it wasn't just a date re-set.

WhiteOx, it was after that then it was AustechInfo when I joined.

When did CD Copyworld change to Austech?

Thanks for the info, do you know what the cause of the 2008 crash was ?

I just mean that EVERYBODY that was already a member then, from that point on had a join date of Jan 2008!

Almost... I didn't re-register until April that year, although I was a member long before the crash, so only members who actually re-registered in Jan 2008 will have that as their join date.

A whois lookup gives Jan 2002 as the Austech domain creation date.

Some people say it was crashrun but it was really a hard drive failure.
From memory I believe that the backups were spread over multiple hard drives and the data couldn't be retrieved, but Andrew would know for sure.

Strange, I thought a multiple HD setup is there to avoid total loss of data if a drive fails.

Been here since 2002 I think, looking for a 'Gold Card' solution for Austar (may have been white cards by then) but I think I used the goldie from a D2MAC setup I had back in Europe.

20 years is fine for me.
These days we become 'of age' at 18 not 21, while sense kicks in by 25. At least that is what car insurance companies and our driver's license system assumes.

Edit: I can now only view forum threads when logged in. Is this some random behavior from my side(because I don't use M$, IE/Chrome, whatever) or a decision to keep the party private?

I believe the host had used the wrong Raid configuration.

True freedom is the greatest gift a man can possess, yet is the one thing most easily and innocently given away, to crafty curses and binds cleverly disguised as blessings and gifts, in the pursuit of supposed achievement, status and power.
