Yuck....and built in conjunction with Nissan? Double Yuck.

Toyota Hilux would still be my choice in that price range only because of their toughness and reliability.

Id by the Merc only if i wanted to lose some serious resale value, much like the rest of their range.

I dont know how the ranger fits into that price range, i had a brand new demo Diesel brought over to my place to see, plastic chrome grill, started talking to a service department worker mate that drove it over and was warned of all the issues so far, i couldn't believe the list of faults, cost to repair some parts and failures they have had so far with them.

We wont get into the technical aspect to understand how to repair them and the specialized tools involved.

Mercedes crap is just overpriced plastic , and idiots buy them just because of the badge.

@Godz , I was looking for a new Ranger / Everest before i settled on a Prado. Couldnt see too much bad stuff written about them on line ( at the time ) but my regular mechanic said they were having gearbox problems. Ive had some minor issues so far but Toyota are fixing everything under warranty so am happy with that.

They had some fuel line pipes quietly replaced during service as a upgrade due to known leaks but the biggest failures have been the fuel injector blocks and what a pain to get to to replace, whole front of the motor and right side needs to come apart.

I asked what the cost of one would be new and almost fainted when he told me....and we didnt get into labor costs.

But on the bright side he told me he had become pretty quick at replacing them because he had done so many.......

thats a nasty problem. when commonrail pumps fail bits of metal get pushed around the whole system , from the injectors , commonrail manifold , tank ,fuel lines , filters everything. At least Toyota ( on the latest diesels ) have installed a filter at the commonrail manifold inlet so if the pump fails internally bits wont get flushed throughout.

What isn't plastic on modern cars ? I seriously doubt it has any more plastic than the Hilux or Ranger.
Mercedes make good cars. That was proved by the C class winning car of the year is almost every award over 2014-2015

American design and look are what people want. The massive success of the Ranger proved that.

There are no know major problems with the Ford Ranger. Of course some people will have a problem, that always occurs when you make hundreds of thousands of something.
If you listened to mechanics, you wouldn't buy a car. Whirlpool is agreat place to listen to what mechanics have told people. I was told I would have all sorts of problems buying a used BMW. In 10 years, I have replaced the brake pads (and the discs, only because I wanted something sportier).

Car of the year is proportional to the advertising budget to that particular media

Drive it down the Gibb River Rd this season and tell me what is left of it at the other end.

Brand new 200 Series Landcruisers have been snapping king pins in half
I know it is not the target market for the Merc Ute, but that is the test i want to see
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

Looking at the photos of the interior, looks like it comes replete with spiders, the air vents all look like they al have a resident crucifix spider.

Cars guide said a price range of 40-70K which looking at the rest of the ute market is not bad.
