Default Fire Panel to Access Control Panel feed.

    Hey Guys.
Just want to know the actual Regs.
Working on an Alarm / Access Control system for a 2 level office in a multi storey building (20 or so floors).
The building has its own fire system smokies/sprinklers/etc etc.
I assume to be compliant, I need a feed from the main Fire Control Panel so that in the event of a fire, all my doors in the office will open and alarm will trigger etc etc.?

    Cheers
    ZS

    Hi ZS,

See Building Code of Australia regs - D.2.21, d)

"d) it is fitted with a fail safe device which automatically unlocks the door upon the activation of any sprinkler system or smoke or thermal detector system installed throughout the building,"

Lives at risk - take special care whenever installing in a building with a fire panel or sprinkler system.

    Hope that helps.

I've done a few large buildings.

The fire guys install a box which has a relay in it.

The relay is always powered up, so in the event the power fails & also back batteries on the fire system. the relay will go back to it's normal state making the zone go into alarm condition.

In the past I've asked for two boxes in different parts of the buildings & a verification & safety points.

Basically it's the same as lift control. relays always powered on & swipe on reader drops power allowing you to select the floor etc.
same thing with the fire over ride keyswitch in a lift with access.

The doors that are fire exits you will need to do fail safe on the electric strikes & mag locks well; if there no power your all good etc.

The next way you can do it & I've seen other people do it by including the fire relay into all the doors switching +

    Hope that helps

    Thanks MTRBO
Have glass breaks on all the mag lock doors..

I'll get the feed from the fire panel and add in a relay. Then I can run all my lock power via that relay in the panel.

    Correct
"I'll get the feed from the fire panel and add in a relay. Then I can run all my lock power via that relay in the panel."

The relay will be constantly powered from fire panel. Normally 24v. So that if supply cable ever got disconnected or fault, your doors will be unlocked.
