Default A Good Repairer to fix my Vast STB ?

    Hi Guys

Does anyone know of a good and trusted Technician to Repair my Altec DSD 4121 STB

I am in the Hunter Valey above Newcastle, but would be willing to pay Registered postage both ways to the right repairer & pay for the Repairers Labor & Parts to fix it (of course) ....

It does not appear to be a power supply problem (but I do not know that for sure .....)

It goes though the process of starting up scanning etc ... then it momentarily decodes a picture and sound, then re-boots or black screen

It does have a bulging top capacitor on the main board that appears to have been leaking too ...?

I know the easiest way is buy a new decoder ... but I would like to fix it if it can be fixed ....

If anyone one is interested please reply to me in this thread or by PM

    here are some pic's

Other people may also be interested in knowing a good Technician willing to repair their Vast STB's too ....

Who does UEC recommend? I just don't think it's economical to repair. What $20 each way post, then maybe 2hrs labour? You're well on the way to a new receiver.

    .....Leroy

    Yes you are right Leroy,

I just thought it is activated and I would try to keep the hardware alive if I could .... ?

"TV Repairmen" are hard to find these days unless you live in the City ?

& I just thought there maybe someone skilled in electronics repair on this forum ?

as you say I could buy a New Vast STB & just ring up Vast Activation's & they will transfer my activation details from my old card number to my new card number & it will be up and running again in 30 seconds

Hi OSIRUS, The dreaded random reboot problem is a power supply problem. I have repaired a number of these boxes using a retrofit 12 volt supply board. You can obtain them from here :

    .

UEC don't want to know about it.

You will only need a philips head screw driver and a pair of long nose pliers.

    Best of luck.

    Cheers

Changing the power supply from the Working DSD4121 STB to the non-working DSD4121 STB ..... did not fix the problem ..... (it still has the same problem)

changing the power supply back into the working DSD 4121 STB & it works fine again .....

by the way I have bought the 12v replacement power supply boards (1 from Access Antennas & 1 from SatPlus) & I have not have not had any success getting them to work (have not tried on this particular STB),

maybe I am doing something wrong ?

This is why I think I need a Technician trained in electronics repair to have a look at it ....

or Bin it & buy a new one,

BTW, The Main board in the DSD4121RV (with 12v external p/s) appears very different to the DSD 4121 (with 240v internal p/s)

here is a pic of the DSD4121RV (with 12v external power supply)

    thanks for the reply
