    Default Visiosat SMC 1.2m

    Hey guys,

Does anyone know where one can still get hold of one of these?

The Visiosat 120cm dish made from SMC.

Can't seem to find Visiosat the brand anymore. All Cahors now.

Remember that this is an Australian forum so anything available/obtained locally will be irrelevant to South Africa.

I have never seen Visiosat or Cahor dishes in Australia.

Any reason for wanting that particular dish?

Ah OK. Yeah, they are (well were) made in France. For some reason, quite a few of them here in my country and in Namibian coastal areas.

People here like them because they are fibreglass, really well made and reinforced quite well, albeit the 50-90 cm range size anyway.

Well, I wanted to ask your guys' opinions on this actually. I want to fit either a quattro or octo LNB for one, but also, wanted to be one step "higher" on the size aspect than the recommended size for my area (90 cm for HD/DVB-S2), also the rust and wind factor, both of which there is a lot here near the Atlantic Ocean.

The dish has some really nice ribbing/reinforcement on the back too (not shown), very similar to the big offset Channel Masters/Andrews you used to get years ago. Just overall a really well-made dish, nice material and nice size.

But OK, I thought maybe you guys used them or have seen them in Oz too.

An alternative if you can get them in SA, is Azure Shine.

I use them and they are very solid with rolled edges.

Those are nice, I've seen them. But, I don't think we get them here.

Do you guys have a brand of SMC/fibreglass dishes that you guys use in Oz? Or is it something you guys don't use much?

I have a 2.4 solid fibreglass dish with a mesh core manufactured in Darwin (Northern Territory) built to withstand cyclones. Aside from these, I am not aware of any fibreglass dish availability in Australia.

A lot of the early internet dishes were fibreglass, typically 1.5m but can't remember the manufacturer.

Matchmaster currently have 1.2m offset fibreglass dishes.

With the progression of IP TV the demand for this product has diminished . No body brings them in any more. The most popular SMC was Prodline brand. They were not cheap.

In saying that, you may find 2nd hand ex Sky channel and some used on Fire Stations V-Sat… CBA branches had a v sat setup, decommissioned years ago.

Nowadays it’s only all metal made, Taiwanese Azurshine, or cheaper Chinese made.
