    Default Alternative to SLINGBOX

With the demise of the support for Slingbox Pro I am a bit reluctant to buy another one .

I have heard that Monsoon Vulkano is a substitute as Belkin TV is no more .

Any one had any experience with Vulkano ?? The web site seems to be operating ??

Any news helpful on this or any other substitute that is working ??

    Cheers,

    Ramp

I had one a while ago, after my slingbox packed it in. It was a bit disappointing (much like the slingbox) but did the job.

It might not be what you're after but check out the HDHomerun.

I got a Vulkano flow and it works ok but watching on the internet it's limited to ~2Mb upload so the picture is OK but not HD.
It's also reliant on the Monsoon servers being up and who knows how long that will be for.

If you're using it for Foxtel, check out Aliexpress for hdmi streamers.

You end up with a direct stream, rather than going through the slingbox server, and you can set the quality to match what you want to use it for.

I wouldn't go with Vulcano, had one and no HD.
I own two slingboxes (350 and 500) for 3 years now, one of them I am streaming all the way from Europe using a VPN on HD quality of 8Mb/sec and it has not missed a beat!

My isp is Telstra. I am on cable 100Mb/sec download but even on a 10Mb/sec download I could get 8Mb via Astril. In Europe the upload speed on the slingbox side is 100Mb, too.
The speed variates and even if you have the slingbox in the same network you will find that the stream speed is not always 8Mb, it variates in between 4Mb and 8Mb. If there is something like a soccer game where the green field moves a lot then the slingbox outputs 8Mb.

Without the VPN maximum I can get is 1,400b/sec which is nowhere near HD.

Hi, am looking for a set top box that will allow me to watch all the channels on my Foxtel live, play and set recordings and control the box, whilst away.

    My Vulkano is now defunct.

Are there any alternatives to Slingbox please?

    Thanks, W

I have a HDMI Encoder which you can plug into the Foxtel Box and then it broadcasts the video over your network, and if you set up port forwarding you can use it over the internet. You can set different quality streams so you can adjust depending on your bandwidth.

I'm not sure which one mine is because it's got no branding on it and it's a few years old but they are all over aliexpress.com . Mine was probably around the $200 mark.

I'm not sure about playing recordings but you can change channels and record things remotely using the My Foxtel app. You could probably set up one of those Broadlink mini remotes and use that as a remote over the internet. The delay might be a bit annoying is all.
