Im trying to find a cool 21st Birthday present/experience for the youngest lad.
He isn't much into drinking and going out, so i'm thinking of taking him to a Hot Lap / Drive day type thing
Only now there are so many options
V8 Hotlaps:
Rally Day:
Formula Ford Open Wheeler laps:
Has anyone been to something like these and can really recommend it
Or even have some better suggestions?
Needs to be in Victoria though.
Im thinking the Formula Ford at Broadford would be good
Thanks

If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

I did the 3 hot laps at Sandown about a year ago as a birthday present, quite good and professional. Can't say the cars are true high performance vehicles and they seemed to slow down by themselves when pushed hard into the corners (think the co driver has a hidden brake)

+1 for the Rally driving , mine was in NSW though. got to flog an old Evo 5 along some knarly sand tracks on a large circuit. amazing how fast and well that car went. I had an experienced driver with me giving instructions , otherwise i may have crashed out

All the events are under controlled conditions.
By controlled, i mean having the real fun pulled out of them.
Sandown track experiences dont let you go under third gear entering the back straight.
Rally one in the west wont let you go under third gear, so NO powering out sideways.
Mind you my brother bought me a day there knowing i had not been rally driving since i got married and he knew it was a passion of mine that married life took away so i shared the day with my son to give him a taste of it.
I had a great day, trainers are all Ex Vic rally champs and professional driver coaches (such as Craig Lownes private coach).
After my second lap i was pulled off the track and asked what my background was and how long id been rally driving.
Mind you on the 2 laps i was just getting a feel for the car.......just tippy toeing and the instructor was feeling a little uncomfortable with my late braking......while i was commenting that i could have braked far later and harder.......
Then after that they stuck me in with the ex Vic champ and i was the only one given the privilege of driving a ex European WRX Rally car.....took a while to get use to LHD, i think i managed to knock over every cone on the right while thinking i was too far to the left of the track.
Now that thing was light and fast....and very controllable at speed.

Well, it was a toss up between the Formula Ford Day and a Rally Day....
So i got him 5 Laps in a 900hp Full Blown Sprint car around Avalon speedway
Not bad for $299
They also offer 12laps driving a single seat sprint car (not a de-tuned car, 900hp+)
2 x 6 lap sessions for $795

I must admit I didn't enjoy my Rally Vic experience and remember discussing it with God at the time.
He's right - it's a very controlled environment.
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.
Maybe the fella is not into driving or riding. Do something else, something common, like throwing him off from thousands of feet high
I'm not joking. I think Sky Diving would be a great experiance, he's gonna love it.
He loves his driving and racing.
I did think of Sky Diving, but as they have done away with Solo First jumps, there really is no fun in it anymore.
Even when i did my Solo First jump, it was great experience, but surprisingly underwhelming considering what i was expecting.
The idea of doing it strapped to someone else is rather vanilla
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
Try a jump without a 'chute, that should get the adrenalin pumping
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

The kids had more women in his young years than all of us put together i'd say admin, not sure a tittie bar would raise an eyebrow
But i'd like it!
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
