    ^^ & it was.
    MM Honda went boom??
Duc went zoom! At the end. lol. Excellent ride by Dovi; could be his year to take the Duc to the top.
Yamaha were happy with good performance recovery. Rossi happy with 3rd after leading most of the race!
    Cool.
Certainly closed the championship up a bit.

Would really like to know what happened to MM's Honda, flames, smoke & oil.
Looked like a conrod exciting the crankcase or the gearbox trying to do the same, however I expect that will be covered up with a press release of a minor issue, lol

Yeah what a crash fest in all 3 races.

MM on the last lap, what can you say, he tries so hard.
Equal lead of Championship with Dovi now, let the fun begin, 5 rounds remaining.

Van der Mark to replace Rossi at Aragon

Yamaha announce WorldSBK rider as replacement for the number 46

    Tags , , ,
Yamaha WorldSBK rider Michael van der Mark will be riding Valentino Rossi's YZR-M1 at MotorLand Aragon for Round 14. Rossi is making good progress with his rehabilitation process, but isn't expected to be able to compete again before the Grand Prix of Japan at Motegi in October.

For Aragón, Van der Mark will be backed by Rossi's usual crew. This opportunity will provide the 2014 WorldSSP Champion with a similar MotoGP™ experience to fellow Yamaha WorldSBK rider and 2017 Suzuka 8 Hour winner Alex Lowes last year.

Unlike Lowes, who had the benefit of some testing mileage in Brno, Czech Republic, prior to taking part in the MotoGP weekends, Van der Mark will debut in the premier class on the YZR-M1 without any prior testing. Nevertheless, the three-time Suzuka 8H winner is well accustomed to the demands of working for a factory team. The Dutchman is also no stranger to the MotoGP paddock, having competed in seven 125cc Grands Prix in 2010, and in the 2011 Moto2™ race in Assen, the Netherlands.

Michael van der Mark: "I'm excited to be given the opportunity to ride the YZR-M1 at the Aragón MotoGP round. I’ve never ridden a MotoGP bike before, so this will be a completely new experience for me. I’m very curious to see what it feels like to ride on such a machine. I realise that it won’t be easy going straight into an official practice session without any prior testing. Nevertheless, I’m very grateful to Yamaha for the opportunity. I’m sure it will be a great learning experience."

Lin Jarvis, Managing Director - Yamaha Motor Racing: "Following Valentino’s crash on Thursday, August 31st, Yamaha decided not to replace him at the San Marino Grand Prix, but for the next Grand Prix in Aragón the team is obliged to enter two riders. It being virtually impossible for Valentino to be fit to race in Aragón, Yamaha decided to search for a capable replacement from within its own pool of contracted riders. Having previously used Katsuyuki Nakasuga to fill in for Jorge Lorenzo in 2011 and Alex Lowes to replace Bradley Smith in 2016, we decided that Michael van der Mark should have the opportunity this time around. It is never easy to step in to replace another rider and even more difficult to replace Valentino Rossi, but we believe that Michael has all the credentials and experience to do a good job. We will give him our very best support and wish him every success for this exciting opportunity. We also hope that Valentino will continue to make a rapid recovery and that we will see him again, back on his YZR-M1, on the earliest possible occasion."

    Cheers, Tiny

Yep, but they were in tears of joy when he qualified on the front row last night only 22 days since he broke his leg.
& Lorenzo from Q1 to second on the grid??
Vinales takes first pole at home.

I know, he even had Pole at one point
Guy is a freak!!!! All that risk for what? It's not like he needs the money or to prove himself.

If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

I think he just loves his racing & being part of it.

Rossi: “I have to suffer, but I’ll try”
The ‘Doctor’ put in a stunning performance in Q2, taking a front row start only 23 days after breaking his leg

Only 23 days after breaking his tibia and fibula in a crash when training, Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) put himself on the front row for the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragon after even going straight through to Q2. With initial doubts about his fitness getting better and better every day, the number 46 is sure he can race – and will try his best, although it will be a challenge.

Valentino Rossi, P3: “It’s a surprise for me and us, because I didn’t know what to expect. A week ago I started to think maybe it was possible to ride here, and I did some laps with the R1 thinking it could be possible but with some pain. But the leg has improved every day. The M1 is more comfortable and better for my size, riding yesterday in the wet was fine but I didn’t know in the dry. But this morning I felt quite good, I have some pain but not too much. My position on the bike isn’t perfect but quite close to the normal one, at first we changed some things but now I’m using the normal footpeg and seat position and for sure it’s better.

“We worked a lot with the team and on the second tyre I was able to get the front row. That’s important. We still need to work a bit because with the race tyre my pace isn’t fantastic but we’ll try. On Friday morning when I woke up I was in pain, then this morning when I woke up it was better. So if tomorrow continues in the same way, I can do the race. But the bike is a bit more demanding on the race tyres…for sure I have to suffer, but I’ll try.”

wet qually, very interesting. Rossi & MM gamble on slicks, MM a bit smarter & puts in a banker lap on wets first.
watch out for the KTM's & Aleix on the Aprilia if it stays wet.
