This week my relatives discovered AGL were mistakenly charging them for energy produced by their solar panels instead of crediting
them on their account and last year Dodo gas were taking a guess at my gas meter readings and charged me over a thousand
dollars for gas over 3 months period which caused the victorian government to threaten to ban me from energy concessions for possibly running a business using gas at home which was a bunch of lies. So although the energy companies fixed these problems after our complaints this is just my family
and a tip of the ice berg of mistakes these energy companies make.

I think what happens here is they send you quarterly bills but possibly only read your meter 6 monthly or yearly, so they guess a figure and it gets adjusted when actually read. They save money on the meter reader, they bill you more and they make money on your money, what a win win for the utility company
I note that this occurs with my gas and water accounts, well the electricity meter is a $400 smart meter which i am charged and which saves me zilch

Its no harder for these companies to send a bill for what you have used than it is for them to 'estimate' the amount used but if you consider they overcharge by just ONE Dollar per reading per Customer, its adds up to THOUSANDS that goes into their accounts.
And for every 100 customers they are overcharging, how many just accept the Bill and pay it without question?? You can bet its enough to keep them happy.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
Not long after taking up residence here in 2013, and signing up with Origin for electricity, we received a bill for a tad over $2,000.
Once I was able to speak again, I rang Origin......they checked, and came back with the reason that somewhere between the meter read (done by SP Ausnet) and the number being crunched by Origins' computer, a decimal point had mysteriously moved one place to the right.
I am forever grateful that my ingrained cynicism had prevented me from agreeing to Direct Debit at the time of sign-up.
If I had, I suspect I may still be fighting to get my money back.
Since then we have experienced a spurious meter-read charge when we changed plans, omitted Pay-on-time discounts, and a number of other small, but not insignificant errors.
When I looked up reviews of other providers on the internet, i discovered that this sort of incompetence (I'll give them the benefit of the doubt) is industry wide, and changing providers was pretty much a case of frying pan and fire.
The entire energy industry is a complete and utter fiasco from turbine to invoice.

Seriously, you guys need to stop copying us South Africans, LOL.
Power shedding/blackouts and now screwed-up energy bills?
True freedom is the greatest gift a man can possess, yet is the one thing most easily and innocently given away, to crafty curses and binds cleverly disguised as blessings and gifts, in the pursuit of supposed achievement, status and power.

Just had a gas bill....it wasn't much, but since the wife and I haven't used any, and since the meter (regulator?) isn't even a year old, I rang them. They fell over backwards to organise a meter re read which I am still waiting for. I paid the bill though, but we'll see how it goes as you have to have heating here.
...in winter, the only warm place in this town is above parliament house....
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
As I am PAYING for the meter to be read, I demand they do so each quarter and if not, refund me the cost for a service not being carried out.
