Default Master code problem on Clipsal 5400

    Afternoon all.

I think I may have painted myself into a corner.

New home and we inherited a Clipsal security system with a 5400 LCD keypad.

I finally got around to checking it out, as the previous owners left paperwork saying they never used it, but the installer had performed some configuration but they were unable to tell us what.

All the zones etc are configured, and I can see the zone number display across the top of the LCD display as the sensors pick up movement.

I did not have any codes, so I attempted to enter Programming mode using the default Master Code of 123. This worked, so the default code had never been changed.

Problem has arisen when I attempted to change the code, as per the documented instructions: P201E <NEWCODE>E<NEWCODE>E

This successfully changed the Master Code - as 123 no longer works - however the code I put in does not work either. I'm testing by attempting to enter Program mode by P<code>E. I had a few attempts (allowing for mistyping etc) and every 5 tries it sets the alarm off for 5 minutes and I now also have the strobe going for 72hrs.

So question is what are my options? Is there any way of resetting the Master Code? Also, any idea how this could have happened in the first place?

    Thanks

    Scobie.

I just found this in the manual, I'm assuming it has something to do with what happened as The Master code I attempted to input started with zero:

"Keypad codes beginning with 0 (zero) can be
programmed but they will not operate the panel. This is
an alternative method for disabling user codes."
Not sure where that leaves me.

Power the system down completely, battery and AC,

Ensure the tamper is open and power it back up, once you do it should be in program mode, then program the code again.

    Many thanks for you reply.

Do I need to wait for the strobe to finish before powering down?

Also, would the zero-leading code have caused this?

    Cheers again.

If you power the system down completely the strobe will not be flashing,

Yes the zero will be the cause,

    ok makes sense.

Power the system down completely, battery and AC,

Ensure the tamper is open and power it back up, once you do it should be in program mode, then program the code again.
I would like to ensure I follow proper procedure for this, is it documented somewhere?

The unit is a rebadged Ness alarm. Try researching Ness D8 alarm.
    or
    Clipsal manual here

    See page 5, Prog/Tamp

Thanks Secure, looking at that manual and the advice from XR5 I should do the following?

    Open the Homesafe Housing
Power off the AC plug pack
    Disconnect the battery
Open the J1 jumper by removing the link
    Reconnect the battery
    Reconnect the AC

At this point the 5400 should be in program mode so I can reset the Master code using the key sequence I showed earlier.

    Reconnect the jumper
    Close up.
