    Default Cyclone Debbie

Something i have never been in or experienced.
But after watching Media reports, it is meant to be pretty bad.

Yet this is what i don't understand
Using Windy.tv the strongest winds in Cyclone Debbie are currently 46knots or 85 kilometers
Ok, thats bad enough, but its not 200k's plus.

Does it become really destructive and increase in velocity right as it crosses the landmass?
Or is this just the typical media beat up?

I see from reports most locals aren't too concerned.
Apart from taking the obvious precautions and preparations.

I see Hamilton Island has wind of 94ks and Gusts of 117ks
(which is the same as i've had at home, but not for such a prolonged period)

Hopefully they will all be ok.

They say it is now a Cat 4 with winds of 250 kph.
Are our online weather services unable to measure such conditions?

the most destructive winds are at the core of the Cyclone , and its the highest gusts that are quoted. so if the core is 250kph the surroundings may be 100kph less. Still , its the flying objects that are more dangerous than the winds themselves.
we are 1000klm south but still prepared for the worst as we live on the coast. gensets ready , gas cooking ready , food is topped up ( which is most important ).

I have a brother in Cairns and friends on the Tablelands, not really concerned about them, but I do have a Nephew right in the middle of it in Townsville and he has been a yacht captain for years, lost a couple in Yahtzee, so I'm hoping all is well this time.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

It was my understanding that what debris blows loose is likely to come back the other way once the eye passes over, so THAT'S sometimes the most dangerous thing.

My son is in Hervey bay having moved from Airlie....
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
