Anyone been out to watch the Southern Aurora over the passed few months?
There has been some really good displays in the last few weeks.
I saw it once on the way home, and also bumped into a friend that has been putting in the hours to get a some pics.

Nice lightshow pics.
Really an amazing sight to see.
When I first read the heading I thought you were talking about the old train... long gone.

Wow, I didn't know one can see aurora australis that far north. Isn't your area at like 38°S or something?
True freedom is the greatest gift a man can possess, yet is the one thing most easily and innocently given away, to crafty curses and binds cleverly disguised as blessings and gifts, in the pursuit of supposed achievement, status and power.
My father told me that you could once see the lights from Melbourne, but think there may be too much ambient light now
There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Madness"
There are really nice pics from Ocean Grove and Apollo Bay too, all taken in the passed month.
I just need to find them.
I am not sure what conditions you need to see this, we just saw it by accident on the way home from Apollo Bay one night

Found it
That was the night on the way home from Apollo Bay
Photo by the friend i ran into on the way home, in the same car park i had stopped in.
(Obviously it didn't look that spectacular to the naked eye, but it was obviously not something you see normally in the sky)

Nice pics, OB........brings back fond memories of down south, although we never saw that range of colours, primarily sort of lime green through to occasionally near white. Damned hard to photograph though unless you really know what you're doing, which your mate obviously does.
We had a small farm in the hills behind Merimbula on the NSW far south coast, elevation 500m, Lat 37.8 S.
We would frequently see Aurora Australis from the small hill behind the house where the machinery shed was located, particularly in winter.
Generally just pink ranging through to red, but often quite extensive and of considerable duration.
As Allover mentioned, it used to be possible to see the southern lights from many locations in southern Australia, but ambient light in the more developed areas has put an end to that.

I have seen them when driving between Goulburn and Canberra.
