Default Four Stroke Lawn Mower - Revving on Steroids

Hi all. It's got wheels (but of the smaller variety)! Wondering if someone could help identify this problem.

Last year I changed the spark plugs, oil and blades on my four stroke lawn mower (Victa with a Briggs and Stratton engine). Had to tip it on it's side to change the oil and get sufficient leverage to remove the old blades (covered the fuel hole with a plastic wrap to stop leakage).

When I'd finished and started the motor, it revved like crazy, a constant rev and even lifting off the ground, like a hovercraft. I took it to a repairer but didn't get a satisfactory explanation of the problem (was relatively cheap to fix so they didn't do much).

    Wondering any thoughts? Thanks.

is a very useful website for Briggs and Stratton motors.

    Search through the FAQ's.

Youtube also has useful presentations. Do a search.
