John Warren Geils Jr. has died aged 71.
The guitarist, founder of The J. Geils Band, was found dead at his home on Tuesday in Massachusetts, according to US reports.
WCVB-TV Boston reports the rocker passed away from natural causes.
John, known professionally as J. Geils, was guitarist in his namesake band.
They were best known for hits Centerfold, Freeze Frame and Love Stinks.
In the 80s, the likes of US, the Eagles and Billy Joel all opened for the band, who eventually broke up in 1985.
Their songs are still popular today.
He was 71.... seems like only yesterday we were watching these clips on Countdown for the first time!

The name means nothing but the music sure does when I played those 2 clips.
We watch 'Jukebox Saturday Night' on Foxtel's Aurora channel and its rare now I dont have to call up an appearing performer/group on the Tablet to see if their still with us or gone to Jukebox heaven at least once during the show.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
RIP...their commercial hits funded their preferred music which was more of the Chicago blues variety. They had a great harmonica player.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

What a horrible way for an 80's musician to die, from natural causes.
And worse, above the average life expectancy for a human male.
If you make it to 67, half of the people you knew that were your age will now be dead. (mostly those with some kind of musical talent).
Yes I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.
Special for John Geils on the ABC at 8pm tonight
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
I heard on the radio that his name was Jerome Geils not John ?
