You'll only need a fine gauge cable.
Use the size of the figure 8 cable as a guide.
Loss over 5m shouldn't bother it.
Any weather-exposed joints ... best to use amalgamating tape.
I bought a set of cameras (4) and where I want to put a couple isnt near a mains supply.
Each camera comes with a 1 metre lead attached to a mains plug pack.
The cameras are Wifi so they just need a power source to operate.
This lead has a plug about 200 mm (8 inches) from the camera and the lead from the plug to the plugpack is of the figure 8 configuration.
Although the camera etc are supposed to be suitable for 'Outdoor' use, I dont think the plug is very waterproof so I was considering either Heat shrink or wrapping it in self amalgamating tape.
The plug pack puts out 5V DC at 1.0A according to the label so what gauge cable (2 core auto use maybe?) should I use IF I need to place the camera a maximum of 5 metres from the plugpack to avoid any power loss ??
I was simply going to cut it in and tape/heat shrink it into the current lead.
The plugpack is one piece molding and I dont want to open the camera case hence the cut and add suggestion.
The other option is to try and find a set of plugs to match what is in use and make up an extension lead but there are no hobby shops here now.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

I was looking to do it 'on the CHEAP' of course and only use what I needed to get the voltage to the camera.

Similar gauge cable, solder and sealant filled heat shrink.
