Default Where to start with Cband

    Gday everyone,

I am looking at picking up a second hand C band dish in the next few weeks.

Could I get some suggestions on what satellites I should start having a play around with first? So far from what I have found, IS19, IS805 and asiasat 5 should keep me occupied. What others are popular?

From what I can work out my receiver being a Freesat V7 can allow a few more channels to be viewed if I can find a key... Can someone give me a message on the best place to look into this further.. I believe I have read there is a facebook group?

    Thanks

For 2nd hand keep looking on Gumtree. New 2.3m, C-LNBF and actuator should set you under $250. The main C-Band satellite with english programming viewable in the south east, from east starting with Asisat 5, Asiasat 7 and Intelsat 19. For details see

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have used Lyngsat for a bit of investigation, it was just hard to work out what ones are actually having a look at, I will start with the ones you mentioned.

I managed to get an old 2.3 fixed dish and pole for $70, may take a couple of weeks to assemble and mount though.

Ok great thanks. When I first saw 'autoroll' I assumed it meant I needed a key originally to get it to 'roll' but from what your saying the channels will just become unlocked after a blind scan?

Yes : it may take up to 10 mins to initially open after a scan.
it's certainly quicker if you have an active key but not a necessity.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help, I managed to get it all up and running

For my next question, how accurate is the sat beams website for dish sizes? Can someone just confirm I have no chance of receiving measat 3 global beam on the east coast with only a 2.3m? Thanks.

Measat 3 is my favorite (I love the history channel, Ci, lifestyle etc) but I have a 3.7 and on really hot days its sketchy

Reception of Measat 3 on the East Coast can be a bit of touch and go.....depending on where you are located.

I receive 15 transponders from the Measat 3's on a 2.3m mesh.....location is NE Vic.

Don't forget that it is fairly low to the horizon, so you'll need a good clear path to the West.

Hadn't blind scanned this bird for a while, so gave it a spin after your post.

Ended up with 22 transponders on the SRT4922A, and 22 on the V7 Max......with four of the 22 different between the two boxes.

A total of 120 channels scanned in on the Strong, but only 101 on the Freesat.

A couple of the transponders, although scanned in, showed "No Signal" when called up.

The only channel of those you mention is History Philippines on 3960H.......and that has just started to pixellate pretty badly just now.

    Unfortunately no BBC (no 3840V).

Am working on the Finance Minister for a 3m mesh

Those Finance Ministers can be a real bitch to deal with (from my experience)
