    Default Is it just me?

Don't know if you guys encounter this, or if this might just be bad luck on my part, but nowadays, when ordering something in an establishment over a counter, it seems you get what you asked for only about 50% of the time, and pay what you were supposed to pay about 50% of the time too.

What is it with places today that they employ incompetent people behind a counter?

They can't understand what you are asking for, they don't listen properly and place half of or the wrong order, they get the items wrong on their own menu (and the prices naturally) and it seems basic math and logic eludes them.

Some of the stuff that happened to me (to name a few): getting a cooked breast of chicken (with bones in it) instead of extra cheese on a burger (Heaven knows how "cheese" sounds like "chicken"), giving me a bucket-load of change/coins when the till had sufficient and all of the paper money denominations, people not being able to understand how zeros work in an amount, e.g. entering 160 instead of 106. And to top it, old food from yesterday, that was heated up in a microwave (you're not bullshitting me with that one, I know what it tastes like) whilst large logos outside proclaim fresh food produced daily by top cooks!

This seemingly has now become the corporate norm. 100% for the money, don't care about anything else, no matter how shit the service or how incompetent the staff.

Zero mathematical literacy and very little proficiency in English, the very language the franchise communicates in.

For goodness sake, I mean, these are representatives of a company, and are essentially public liason in a way. How can I buy something from this place if the interface between me and them can't understand or correctly determine what the hell I want?!

Don't want to sound like a bitter pessimist, but I think this world is not going to last much longer, everything is going for a ball of shit basically.

    Sorry, rant over.

. . . here in the States, you DON'T leave McDonalds without checking the bag!

Over 50% of the time it's either wrong or missing something!

Same thing here. So it's a global thing then.

But, it just goes to show how things have slipped downwards, and what has become "acceptable" nowadays.

I honestly feel like I'm living in the wrong century.

Having visited SA i would say its more a problem there than here, lots of unskilled/ lowly educated workers doing menial tasks.

    Haha.

I don't know, I like it. Especially the burning/cooking oil smell.

With every bite, you can literally feel the cholesterol attaching to your arterial walls.

There is more to food and life than KFC and MacPuke and eternal dissatisfaction.

Have you tried preparing your own food?
There are plenty of fun cholesterol ingredients you can use too.
Start simple, try frying sausages in 1 kilo of butter and then use the hot butter as dipping sauce for bread that you cut in nice squares.
Next time you might want to improve it by melting in a kilo of cheddar as well.
You can also spread pure lard about a centimeter thick on a slice of bread with tons of salt and raw onions (Germans love it) .
Then work your way up until you feel like a master chef.
Trust me that is way more satisfying.

... or if you are really that lazy get a girl friend, so she can do it for you.

Yeah, but you know how it goes, it always tastes better when they make it.

You've gotta understand the place I grew up in - KFC is a "treat", LOL.

I got 'caught' recently at McDonalds when I thought I ordered the meat version of their current 'special' Gourmet range but ended up with a chicken pattie instead.
It was nice, well cooked and tasty but it was CHICKEN, not BEEF.
I am a bit strange in that if I want chicken, I go to KFC, Red Rooster or one of those chicken type outlets but for a HAMBURGER its McDonalds or Hungry Jacks, thank you...............

My attitude to 'Take Away' at theses places is that I EXPECT to buy the EXACTLY the SAME style of food at each location no matter where it is so you dont experience any problems when your traveling.
For those who dont like 'them' for any reason, that's your choice to make but I am not interested in hearing about it.

A few years with a few mates, I ran a small business cleaning out the exhurst hoods in Cafes, Pubs, Clubs etc and seeing how those kitchens were operated would turn you off EVER eating out again.............

We had an 'Eat In/Take away' Chinese food shop that solved the language problem as they spoke almost no English by having pictures of their meals along with a number so when you ordered, you pointed at and gave them the number to get what you wanted.
After a few weeks you didnt need to point as they had learnt the numbers.

Yeah, exactly. Like with me - reheated leftovers when it says clearly on the outside made fresh every day.

Had a piece of chicken once, was so tough, couldn't even eat it. Only gets like that when you reheat it.

This place cooked what you chose in front of you and all the ingrediants used were in clear sight before being cooked.
