If any of the keys are the Space, Backspace or E then it's more realistic to assume that old age has caught up with your laptop.
One option (again depending on the keys) might be to re map the keyboard.
My old toshiba tecra which still works perfectly ruuning XP has decided to limit the use of some keys, did a google but nothing definitive came up.
No liquid spills or anything like that so possibly just needs a clean ?

In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

I forgot to mention, laptop replacement is very simple on the Tecra and the keyboards are also very cheap

you can always check with a USB keyboard as well, usually laptop kb's are 15-20 usd!
Not the spacebar key but the i key is one of the problem keys, using on screen keyboard at the moment. Only realised it was a key issue when entering my wifi key and it wouldnt connect.
also try wireless keyboard with usb dongle
loanrangiel, trying to clean/fix is going to be a waste of time . . . just swap out with new! IMHO
