Panasonic NV-HV62 VCR
Hi all, I bought this many years ago and it's done little work. It's sat in standby for the most part for last the past 5yrs with the occasional tape watched by the kids.
The tape loads and you see the tape wrap around the drum. If I fast forward it still keeps the tape wrapped around the drum. Is this normal?
I hit play and it will play and ff and rw. If I stop it ejects the tape not just stopping it. Ideas?
Cheers,
Leroy

further more, when the tape loads it wraps the tape around the head and the head is spinning but the spools of the tape don't spin. If I hit FF they do and then hit play it starts to play.
I also thought if you press stop and rewind tape, the tape comes away from the drum?
TIA.......Leroy
just noticed now when you load tape it plays but doesn't wrap tape around drum the a few seconds later it ejects. Mode selector switch?
Hi Leroy,
Another thing to check is the worm drive on the loading motor.
You need to remove it and inspect it for cracks.
The gear splits and then slips on the loading mode shaft when under load.
It's always worth cleaning any panasonic mode switch.

Hi Leroy,
Are you asking if it is faulty that it is already rapping the tape around the head before you do anything?
If yes.... this is normal. The older VHS used to stay in the cassette until you press a command button (Play/Record).
The "newer" VHS units would lace out the tape for quick start.
I was told years ago the reason for the change was so when you press play there is instant picture.
A lot like Beta units.
I always said Beta is Better.

Also another thing is what timmbo said.... Panasonic are known for Mode Switch issues. They need to be cleaned and aligned correctly.
Not sure for the model you have but the guides pull the tape out are known to break underneath. The teeth gears break.
I hope that helps you out.
