Do you really? It should of course, but I seriously doubt that it will. To hold these people to account would open a can of worms that I suspect NO ONE in government anywhere wants opened. The only time this happens is when such officials clumsily fall into the hands of the press and prosecuting them is unavoidable. Some of the sh*t that gets approved here in the national capital boggles the mind. And when a few years down the track it all falls apart no one goes after the approvers.

How many bankers and those responsible for regulation were prosecuted for a disaster such as the GFC? Someone can correct me, but I think Iceland was the only country to hold them accountable.

Not so sure this time Enf. A lot of public pressure in London and unlike the GFC this is much more transparent to the average bloke.
Media is already jumping on this like mad.
Imagine worldwide all risky constructions would require recladding otherwise no one will want to go in them any more.
Massive boost for workforce and a fantastic shift of wealth from the megarich (who mostly own these buildings) into the economy.

The staircase and sprinkler issue in this particular incident is a different story and a scape goat at least will have to be found fairly quick in order to calm the very angry people otherwise the already not so popular Prime Minister might have to step down.
It matters not if the PM had anything to do with it, she inherited the problem and the public is not happy with government response.

Perhaps.... we'll see. It's been my experience that an instant government response to ANYTHING is almost always is a disaster.

I would think the "outrage" that demands it must wait until ALL the facts are in.....otherwise we are falling for mob rule.

Those responsible would include most ppl in the public 'service', closely followed by big business lobby groups

I honestly think bureaucracy changes the way ppl behave.................I was going to say think, but we all know that to be anathema to bureaucracy

What? So most people in the British public service are responsible for building regulations are they?

Which big business lobby groups? All of them just 'cause? Maybe we'll also dig out the corrupt union members on the payroll too.....maybe even a local pollie or two....

This is the problem.....wait for some rationally determined facts first......

There will be a few not sleeping well.

I don't reckon the protests have reached their peak either.

For once I am on the side of the protesters.

So am I, but that's no reason to go into a mad panic and compound the problem without all available facts....

Apparently the cladding in question is banned in UK, US and many European countries. I hope the same applies here. Though it doesn't stop it being used via nefarious means.

    I've actually had a thought......

Watching the various news stories on this, it appears as though the majority resident was that or our Islamic friends and families in London.

My thought was what if this was a reprisal??? A deliberately lit fire?????

Bit like the latest Van incident.

mention must also be made - of the fire safety signage inside the buiilding , which recccommended that people stay inside in case of fire??? I would also suspect that people would have tried to use the lifts to attempt escape , and who knows how many fire separation doors had been jammed open? had practice drills been put in place ? were there hoarders who couldnt escape thier own piles of junk?

these buildings contain way too many people , too close together , risk of something bad happening is too high.

Yep. The other one doing the rounds is why WTC7 fell down and this one didn't.

You'll never hear the end of it
