I have been using Wi Fi calling for about a month now. It works very when the mobile service is nonexistent.

I just found out that you can make calls over the internet on compatible mobile phones if you cannot get mobile coverage. Cool hey.
I searched & found no mention of this on the forum. Delete if I'm wrong.
Plenty out in WWW.

yeah its real cool, the link to Telstra info has a link to compatible devices.
Unfortunately I don't have Telstra broadband, however I was pleasantly surprised it worked over my NBN SkyMuster Satellite broadband & the friends using it didn't complain about any lag.
They even got a few incoming calls which blew my mind, that's why I had to look it up & see what it does.

Do I need to download an app, open an account to call over internet? Or can I call from an internet browser WITHOUT opening or registering any account?
Follow the instructions in the post immediately above yours.

Do you get the part you need to be with Telstra... in Australia?
The second post link gets you there eventually, however the link in Post #1 gives the instructions. As follows.
