That's the problem with all fora. Sadly, even the mods cannot be here 24/7.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

You guys are only seeing a fraction of it.

admins & mods are catching and banning the majority of them before they can even post.

As always, if you see spam, please use the report button.

Is it worth putting a filter in place so that new accounts can't start a thread until they accumulate 2 or 3 posts in an existing thread?

Have heard of other places that do this.

Unfortunately that doesn't work, as spammers do just that.

It actually encourages them to post in, and derail active threads.

As mentioned by mtv, you guys would be lucky to see half of it.

If you see spam, immediately hit the post report button on the spam thread and report it. An email alert goes to all moderators and we converge on the scene We have enough restrictions in place on new members as it is, and we do not have the staff or resources to manually moderate new memberships. Regardless, IP addresses are from all corners of the globe, we dont know a spammer until they post and we can't ban large IP blocks.

I will also mention a big thanks to members that have been reporting spam, it makes it easy for us to deal with it quickly. Its not the first time we have had large scale spamming and wont be the last.

Do we need to report every spam post by the same "author" or will one do? Biggest problem is, if we've got to report every one, we get caught in the 60 second rule. How the hell do the spammers get around that?

Only one needed to alert us, thanks.

Where multiple spam posts are made by the same user, they get deleted by member name.

Thankfully we don't have to delete them one-by-one.

I don't mean to ask a silly question guys, but OK, what exactly do we have to type in the message box when one clicks the report post button? Do we just say "spam" or "I am reporting spam." etc.?

    And everything links automatically, etc.?

Just writing the word SPAM is sufficient. (That's the reason for your report)

Yes, that's all that's needed for mods to see the post you're reporting.

I see it more of just a malicious attack, as nobody reads the crap... well, maybe except cobra679 who admits it... (post #11).

Maybe we should redirect it all his way.
