    Default Solar - Security Light

To light up the area at the front door when someone is in the area - I bought one of these solar powered LED security lights.

I did not want to play around installing wiring so this seemed the perfect solution. It works great except that it is basically on all the time. The reason being that the movement sensor is so sensitive that any movement of the grass or bushes even in the slightest breeze is detected and sets off the light. Even turning the sensor back toward the front door is no use as the beam bounces off the brick back into the grass and bushes and the movement is detected.

The sensor does not have a sensitivity setting so as a result the light is basically on all the time.

I will pull it down and put is in a garage or shed or something.

So I need something similar that has either a sensor with a sensitivity adjustment or one where the sensor is not motion detect but is IR only detect.

So does anyone have any product suggestions - as per the original item - solar charged, stand alone, no fixed wiring required and with an IR sensor.

    Thanks

    Garry

regardless of whether the sensor has adjustments or not, trees and bushes will always set sensors off unless trimmed and maintained.
so you can either do some gardening or move the sensor to another location.

by the looks of it, all solar powered sensor lights have no adjustments, well at least none listed.

Thanks - but trees etc etc still move whether trimmed and maintained (which they are) or not - these type of sensor will always pick up this type of movement no matter where they are - hence after a unit with a IR sensor that would work in the location.

I don't think Jaycar have what I am after so hoping someone knows another seller who may have a solar IR unit or at least one with an adjustable sensor.

    Cheers

Can you tape up part of the sensor to reduce field of view.

Old enough to remember when "Solar powered light" was an Irish joke.

What a time to be alive...

I'm with secure, put some form of screen around the sensor to reduce the field of view.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Yes that is an option but I am now 400km away so will have to wait - is is now switched off until I either fix it or remove it.

Bunnings have a small range of solar security lights that have a PIR sensor rather than a Microwave movement sensor - so I might get one of them and move the one I have elsewhere.

Ahah! If it's a microwave movement sensor, therein lies the primary problem. It's not really possible to fit any kind 'effective' shielding to help alleviate your current problem.

An IR variety would be better as it detects temperature changes, e.g. body heat.

Wind gusts will also trigger an IR unit on occasions.

An IR beam set up to monitor a walkway would work better, but is not always easy to install.
