Default Electricity meter ownership change in NSW.

Yesterday I was told by a member of the team doing some maintainance on the electricity meter that some time later this year, the ownership of the meter is to be transfered to me and from then on I will have to arrrange any repairs needed to it.
This can be carried out by any electrician certified to do so.
This sounds reasonable for those in Town areas but if your not, this could be both time taking and expensive arranging for a call.
My meter is more than 50 years old and taking responsibilty for it at that age doesnt make me happy.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Just had a quick look through the Australian Electricity Regulator site, and all documentation waffled on about Retailers paying for upgrades, some with embedded networks (like Ports and airports) arguing about the cost of upkeep - but nothing about transferring ownership to the domestic customer.

If that was correct then I would be doing my utmost to the meter to slow it down

Find out if it's fact or fiction.

If it is actually happening, you need to insist that they replace the meter with a brand new, top of the range electronic job before the ownership changeover?

Maybe tell them you need the meter upgraded because you're going to install solar panels?

Surely maintaining equipment is part of the suppliers responsibility - afterall that is what the service provision charge is all about.

Probably related to , although it doesn't relate to the individual consumer. I suspect something may have been lost in translation, perhaps....

Another chance for Macquarie bank to make a motza at the consumer's expense, like I'm sure they do in the UK.
