Default New laptop - what would you buy?

Hey guys, so wanted to start this thread to get some ideas of what laptop you guys would buy if money no object, and you could buy anything.

So, basically, what brand and model (price no issue), and if you were to spec it up too, what would you choose and why. Basically, what would be the best laptop you would buy (and build up/spec up) if you were to do so.

You'll get both Mac and Win officianados with that one. And to use it for what?

Not being the Mac type, I like ASUS machines. Get a good sized SSD and plenty of Ram. My latest (new but unregistered) came with a 250gb SSD which I immediately swapped for a split 2TB SSD and 16gb of Ram. Goes like a rocket.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

As long as it has a decent sized screen that is convertible to use as a tablet. SSD, LOTS of RAM, I wouldn't care too much about the rest. My current lappy is a little underpowered for my wants but does nearly everything that I need. (FYI AMD EI with 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD)
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

I'd say Battery Life is right up there.
Not much point having the fastest, best screen laptop if its gone flat.

I'd only buy what I needed as far as functionality is concerned.

Even if money was no issue, I wouldn't spend a fortune on something I might only use predominately for documents or web browsing.

The thrill for me is in building/speccing it up as far as one can possibly go. I know it's probably unnecessary, but yeah...

I'm still torn between Mac and Windows. Get some really nice Windows machines you can spec up nowadays, but also never used a Mac before, and would like to try something new perhaps.

As much as I hate to admit it, having been a long-time PC user... I have been forced to use a macbook pro for work and I actually quite like it.

Waaay overpriced compared to an equivalent spec'd PC though.

As mtv has said. Apple, waay over priced for what they offer. Always have been. I was actually working in an IBM dealership that was owned by an AppleCenter so, for a while, had a Mac sitting on my desk. Yeah, did everything I needed, but, at what cost?

The Mac OS X operating system is easy to use and would not take you long to become adept at using it.

There are plenty of OS X manuals and video presentations available to help you.

Although I have used Microsoft OS for many years now and continue to do so for software compatibility reasons, I also have a genuine Mac and another 'hackintosh', which I use several times weekly.

Yes, there is an huge difference in pricing when comparing Mac with Windows units.

Many people I come across buy the latest, biggest and 'best' in the belief that this is the best way forward, but then fail to utilise the device to its full potential.

Buy only what is necessary to get the job done efficiently.

What's the point in buying a Rolls Royce to do the weekly shopping?

Yeah, I fully get that, but I usually operate arse-backwards if that makes sense. I usually would go out of my way and learn/try new things just because the machine can do it. For example, if I get such a powerful computer, I would take on learning GIS for instance, to draw maps and things (takes up a lot of system resources). Up until now, I never bothered - never had a machine that could handle it. I know it's a funny way of going through life, but yeah that's me I guess.

Definitely MacBook would be the most expensive. But I would go for a Windows based laptop. Not that I don't like Apple products, I do like them because of their's operating system but I think for my usage, a windows based laptop would be better.
