Default New VAST remote - programming

    Hi All,
Is there anyone here who has replaced the remote on a DSD4639?
I understand the new replacement has to be programmed to suit either a 4121 OR 4639. When done the original will no longer work.
I have a situation where both 4121 & 4639 are side by side & have been working happily for 6 years now.
Question is - does the remote need to be changed or does the device recognise the new code during the reset process?
Also can I change an existing new 4121 remote (pre programmed) to suit a 4639?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just as a sideline interest NAS could NOT provide an answer. (most unusual)

    Hi All,

Well thanks to NAS Australia the problem is resolved! don't buy UEC products.
The short story is - the decoder has 2 sets of IR codes within the software. After a reboot it waits an IR to select the correct IR codeset. Great if you only have one decoder, however it's a nightmare if you have a 4121 & 4639 right beside each other ( an option not considered by UEC Oops!. ) The remedy provided by the agent - "just turn the boxes 90 deg to each other", a perfect solution for my 83 year old client.

yeah I didn't think there was a way to reprogram them. Thanks for proving it.

I was curious why anyone would have 2 STB'S side by side ? Its always been my understanding each brand of device ( TV, VCR, STB etc) uses the same remote so if you have 6 side by side, they will all respond to the operation of that one remote.

    G'day Gordon,
The lady in question started with a 4121 & purchased the 4639 about 20 months later for recording. the 4121s didn't record then. She oftimes records 2 programs and watches a third. (she did tell me that sometimes they can record 2 shows and watch a third on the same box {but not always}). They live remote & TV is a big player for her. Just for the record she has 2 TV beside each other "just in case there is 2 shows she might want to watch at the same time."
PS: They also have 1000's of DVD's & (audio) cassette tapes lining the walls !

Not a Lady who does things by halves obviously, eh?
And in her situation of availabity and location, I applaud her ingenuity.
