I would be weary about putting it in a box to 'throw linen on it'. I guarantee it will overhead and reduce its life. I even recommended installing an air vent with a small fan into the ceiling above recorders in cupboards for these setups.
Hi all,
I am about to install an NVR. Location will be in a closet. I'd like to box it up, not so much for security, just so that I can throw linen and stuff on top. After a cheapish cabinet for this purpose. Any recommendations? Want it as slim line as possible.
Thanks,

Good point! I was actually planning to put in an enclosure that was vented on sides and also out the back, about 3RU or 4RU size. and considering fans to vent out the back too. Surely that will be cool enough ventilation? Any particular cabinets anyone has used for this?
Devices that produce heat and linen do not mix well.
House fires have been known to start this way.
Personally, I wouldn't even risk it with a vent fan.
If you were unfortunate to have a fire start, it's highly unlikely your insurance company would pay.
Thanks for the feedback, both of you. Good feedback! Ok, I'll definitely not put it in the linen cupboard. What about IN the roof/ceiling cavity? Easy to lay cables there. But I don't want to start a fire their either! The NVR is rated to operate up to 55c. Being in Melbourne, we get some reallly hot days, but most the the year it's pretty cool. Failing the ceiling, im stumped for a good spot. Any ideas?
There goes idea 2! Ok. So I Could just put it in the linen cupboard in a ventilated cabinet, on its own shelf, with nothing on top of it? Otherwise there is one in the laundry that I could use too. Thanks
